Just down from that over priced dump, Guerros , is this hidden treasure. I eat one to 2 times a week here. It reminds me a Mexico City Cafe. I have never had anything bad here. I love the crispy beef taco plate. The guacamole is always really fresh. One day I was under the weather and got some of their soup, even that was killer! If you are looking for ambience, this isnt it, If you want great food from a hole in the wall for Tex -Mex. This is it!

I have been to this restaurant a half dozen times, but that's it--I won't be going back. My coworker and I placed a phone to-go order for 4 veggie tacos. First, the server took the order and then left my friend hanging on the phone, apparently forgotten. After a few minutes of yelling into the receiver for help, the server returned and the order was started over. Then, we were told it would be $17+-- for 4 tacos. It turns out the prices don't match the online menu. They added a dollar per taco for about a teaspoon of guac on each. We argued the price until they adjusted it correctly, $5 less (each of our tacos ended up being about $5, expensive for veggie tacos, we think). When I picked up the food, the server took my money and gave me my change, minus the 7 cents. As I waited for the rest of my change, she looked at me like I should be leaving and asked if I wanted the rest of the change. I said yes. She had to get the manager. The manager came over and made a big scene about me wanting 7 cents back, yelling "siete centavos! siete centavos!", as she begrudgingly gave it to me. I am not one to be petty about 7 cents, but considering the experience from start to end, I wanted to 7 cents on principle alone. The service here is horrible, and the food is mediocre, and we will never go back.

I love this place. It is always consistently good and the service is great. Nilda is super sweet and we will go there just to see her. The smoked salmon tacos are excellent and I have to have them at least onece a week...

The food was bland, and not very good at all. The prices are too high for the amount of food you get, and additionally you have to pay for the chips. Our waitress apparently did not understand English well, as she could not answer simple questions about the menu. She also never offered us any chips, and never came back to our table to check on us. For a first visit, this was a bad experience. We will not be returning to this restaurant. Lesson learned: if a Mexican food restaurant is empty at 7 PM on South Congress, turn around and walk back out the door. There is too much good Mexican food in Austin to settle.

Not the tastiest food in town, but its ok. Blase mexican with all the typical stuff you see on everyone else's menu, except maybe a little less tasty. Friends staff, and a modest little restaurant with a big sign. Not a bad place to grab a quick bite, but wouldnt entertain here.
Pros: friendly

This is the place for good food, hot and quick. If your looking for an upscale Austin imitation-this isn't it. The wait staff is a bit "reserved", they could cheer up a bit. Good menu, no frills, and music that might be of interest.
Pros: Good Food, Quick, Hot
Cons: Staff is low key-but if thats what you like great.

I have been a couple of times hoping that the bad service I recieved the first time was an exception. Shame on me for going back. No hostess, staff stares at you and almost enjoys seeing you look around for help. They eventually seat you, then 30 minutes later they bring you the chips you have to pay for. If you ask for something, they either say no or they give you a weird look and bring it to you 10 minutes later...and then charge you for it regardless of what it was. It's as if they feel they can get away with anything because of how prime their location is. I won't be going back
Pros: location
Cons: everything else

I was initially a bit skeptical about eating at such a popular Austin Tex-Mex place especially because that particular location attracts fewer Latino than businesses on the other side of the highway. However, the food, to my surprise had the authentic Mexican seasoning that took me back to my home in Nuevo Leon, esp. the breakfasts and chile rellenos (on Thursdays lunch specials)!! The location is amazing and hip and lends itself for great happy hour and weekend hangouts and the free internet access is ideal for business meetings, which is why I go at least twice a week for lunch. El Sol y La Luna is clearly, and this is coming from a demanding Mexican palate, a taste a Mexico in the heart of Texas.

The food was so bad. The queso was velveeta, which I could easily have gotten past but the chips were so beyond stale my teeth hurt. I ordered fajitas & when I got the plate the fajitas looked like someone had chosen the fattiest strips, set them in the fridge for two months and then over microwaved them. The corn tortillas were cold and my lemonade was so hot the ice melted within minutes. The service wasn't good either but I did notice the waitress never asked how our meal was. She must have known the answer! This may sound over the top but it ALL happened. Fortunately their was Amy's Ice Cream across the street to cheer me up. Go anywhere else for mexican food.
Pros: Location
Cons: Food, Service

El Sol y La Luna is located in a great spot on South Congress. It has a very local, relaxed vibe to it. It's a perfect place to sit outside, people watch, and eat some tasty food. The veggie quesadillas are delicious- not greasy at all. Be sure to share the nachos because the portions are generous.
Pros: Food, Outdoor Patio, Atmosphere
