Definately not family or student friendly

20 years old with her mom on the last day of exams on a Wednesday night. Not allowed in. I can understand a Friday and Saturday night. But really on a Wednesday? Texas law says I am allowed in a bar, they are just too snooty for kiddos. I was there for the band, AND when looking at the site to see if there was an age requirement, nothing popped up. Turned away at the door instead. Kirby Lane it was that night. Now that I'm 21 I still won't step foot near this bar. No concept of European mindset that Pubs are just Public places, not kitch trendy hangouts to get trashed for fake IDers

• Pros: Good live music...if they let you in
• Cons: Typical Austin attitude towards students

Good sound and friendly atmosphere where everyone knows your name.

The giant roadside knight that has guarded the Saxon for years attracts colorful south Austinites, as well as some of the best singer-songwriters and musicians in town. Acts vary from country to R&B to rock and roll. Seven nights a week of live music guarantees a diverse crowd, from soul-music lovers to rock-and-roll aficionados. There's a nice sports area with a pool table, darts, big-screen TVs and 10 draft beers to enjoy at the bar.

Always a good time

What a laid back live music venue should be. Always a good, personal feel to every show, friendly, welcoming staff (and other patrons). Not a plastic trendy bar, just a great place to kick back. The people are there to enjoy the music, not see and be seen (or use their cellphones). Also, good beer selection for about any taste. We've been going for several years, and have always had a good time.

a bit off the beaten path

It's fantastic to see a club in South Austin boast some of the performers and down-home attitude that makes Austin great. I've never had a bad time at a show here.
