skin irritation and an uneven cut!
by leapter
My dog emerged from West End Grooming with an unevenly trimmed tail, cut so close on the under side that he had a skin irritation that required a trip to the vet!
Won't go back.
- Pros: Location
- Cons: Bad hair cut
The Best in Town

I have taken my two dogs to West End Grooming for several years. My golden is approaching 15 years old and is a little feeble. They are so tender with her and very caring. She feels good after a grooming and is just beautiful when I pick her up! My little dog is 9 years old and always looks good too!
I would highly recommend their services!
- Pros: caring and good results
- Cons: none
Overcharged me big time for "Bad Behavior"
by AnnaMas
Although this private dog haircut salon is much superior to the likes of Petsmart and Petco, they were quite untruthful about their charges. I was quoted one price on the phone, but after receiving my dog back, they added a $20 fee because he wouldn't stand still. THEY REFUSE to muzzle the dog, which in some cases is very necessary.
I paid this $20 extra fee for many, many months thinking my dog had a real behavior issue. And each time they said, "we're working with him on it." They promised to fix the problem and not charge me extra next time. But each time was a lie: they never took off the extra charge.
GET THIS: I finally got fed up paying $70 for a simple cocker trim and went to Dirty Dog, which is literally down the street on Lamar. They said they had NO PROBLEM with my dog whatsoever!! They never charged me extra for "bad behavior" and said his wiggling around was normal!! All cockers and other hyper dogs do it. So West End lied to me for many months and I just feel so fooled. :-(
- Pros: It has a statusy image, established place.
- Cons: You will PAY an arm and a leg for simple haircuts, plus get unfair fees tacked on
The most caring groomers
by Madridgal
I have been going to Westend Grooming since 1998. I have trusted all of the dogs I have owned to Kit, Fran and staff at Westend. They are so caring and loving towards all of the animals that they groom. If you have special needs for your dogs while they are there they see to it those needs are met. They are very good about giving the exact cut that you want.
In addition to being excellent groomers, they do and support lots of rescuing efforts. This is a wonderful local business that has been around for over ten years. My pooches and I will always support them.
Great place to take you Dog
by AroundAustin
I have moved twice in the Austin area since I started taking my Maltese Katie to West End Grooming and I have tried many other places (Midtown Grooming, Groomingdales, Diamonds in the Ruff, etc). Now I drive from Round Rock to take her to West End because while I have found places that are closer to me, that do an equal job of grooming or are similarly priced but none have all of these things or that care so much for the animals. Katie is always happy to walk in to West End Grooming where she pulls away and shakes when we even drive up to some of the other places. I feel confident that she will be well taken care of while getting a great cut.
My dog loves West End
by reneetrepagnier
My dog doesn't trust many people, in general, but she loves the folks at West End grooming. They treat her very well, and she is always beautiful after a bath and trim. Their staff understand how to handle dogs and are true professionals. It is prudent to book ahead. I find their prices comparable to other groomers in the area.
- Pros: Good to your dog
- Cons: Hard to get last minute appt.
Hobbes Favorite Place to Visit

Can't say enough good things about the staff and service. It may take awhile to get an appointment but the wait is worth it. I have two schnauzers (10 lbs and 40 lbs) and they get so excited as we get closer to San Gabriel St. I had been through four grooming establishments in Austin before I found West End Grooming and I have never been disappointed. My dogs get groomed every 5-6 weeks and I have been taking them there for almost two years.
- Pros: Great customer service; caring friendly staff; prices in line with quality of work
Great Grooming, Tarrytown Attitude and Prices
by squirrel23
We have taken our two shih tzus to West End for three years. The cuts are arguably the best in Austin and they treat the dogs like family. They have been treating their humans differently lately, tho. They are short on the phone, and if you question why it takes two to three weeks to get an appointment (for loyal customers), you will receive numerous reasons why their time is so much more important than yours... All for the privilege of spending more on dog haircuts than you will spend on yourself in an upscale Austin salon.
- Pros: Great Grooming
- Cons: Attitude, Price, Hard to get an appointment
