NOT THE BEST SELECTION, PRICES OR SERVICE
by austexgirl
I ALWAYS LOVE THE CLOTHES IN THE WINDOW SO I TRY TO GO IN AND LOOK BUT THE SERVICE IS ALWAYS JUST SO RUDE. YOU BETTER BE DRESSED TO THE 9'S TO EVEN CONSIDER HAVING SOMEONE HELP YOU, AND EVEN THEN IF YOU DONT BUY ANYTHING THEY TURN THEIR NOSE DOWN AT YOU. NOT RECOMMENDED FOR FUN SHOPPING
- Pros: UH, IT'S DOWNTOWN?
- Cons: RUDE SERVICE, WAY EXPENSIVE FOR WHAT IT IS
Wonderful Fashion
by malorieleigh
This place is so great. They have the best selection of clothes and the staff is wonderful. I was offered champagne while I shopped and found the perfect dress for the event I was attending. It can be a little pricey, but come on girls...sometimes we just have to have that perfect cocktail dress!!!
- Pros: Wonderful serivice and great clothing
- Cons: None
Go elsewhere -- VERY rude service!!
by laketravischick2
Skip this store even though it has nice and unique (but very expensive) stuff. The service is horrible -- maybe the rudest I have ever encountered all across the board. There are plenty of other great boutiques in Austin with different but equally unique merchandise -- and without the attitude.
- Pros: Nice merchandise
- Cons: Atrocious, rude service!
Most unique clothing in Austin
by jcb1975
Everything in this store is so well made. The pieces brought in each season are varied by designer and the selection is amazing. This is the place you go when you want something no one else will have. The only drawback is that the prices are quite high so you have to be choosey about what to add to your wardrobe. The upside is that the clothing is nicely made and will hold up if you take care of it. The staff is well-informed and not snobbish at all. I especially like Vanessa.
- Pros: Unique
- Cons: Pricey
Great service, stylish clothing for all occasions
by lgw23
The staff at By George was great. They were very knowledgable and recommended styles and cuts that fit me personally. I visited shortly after moving from NYC and found the selection on par with my favorite nyc boutiques. Although they were closing, they encouraged me to take my time and continued to help me browse and find my right size. They definitely made a loyal customer of me.
Funky Clothes and very cool shoes and jewelry
by barbaragail
I was living in Austin for 3 months. Everyone told me to go to By George for great clothes, shoes and jewelry. I was not disappointed!!!!! I bought a Rozae Nicholls top and left the store. Noticed I lost my necklace and went back into the store. All the sales people looked in their store and walked up the street helping me look for my necklace. This was way beyond the call of duty. I was very impressed and my necklace was found on the street - it had just fallen off my neck.
This store is not for students - it is an expensive store. If you can't afford it just don't go in.
- Pros: Easy parking, great variety (if you love trendy clothes, jewelry and shoes)
- Cons: It is an expensive store - but that is why they have great merchandise
Beautiful and smart, without the fussy attitude of most upscale shops.

In Short
Longtime residents of Austin will remember By George's first incarnation at the Dobie Mall in 1977. What began with green shag carpeting has grown into a spacious, sun-drenched space on North Lamar Boulevard, filled with elegant clothing and carefully chosen accessories. By George has hip and current items that are rarely found elsewhere in Austin. A young crowd browses through Moroccan tea glasses, candles and one-of-a-kind jewelry, plus a department store-sized selection of purses and handbags.
Magical Timing for a Birthday Surprise
by reddgypsy666
Planning my boyfriend's birthday surprise the weekend before Christmas was made effortless by the caring staff of this, his favorite boutique, especially the nice girl named Kimberly! I pre-ordered a gift certificate to be wrapped and waiting when I took him on a last minute "detour" on the way to his black-tie martial arts awards ceremony. Upon arrival everyone greeted us warmly, using his name, which floored him since he hadn't been in in a while. I beamed as Kimberly presented him the envelope...he was so surprised he couldn't speak! The next day they greeted us agian with champagne and excellent service as he chose his birthday gift from among their stylish selections. Wish we could do this all the time! Thank you to the owner for choosing wonderful staff who care enough to make the magic happen...
- Pros: attention to detail, friendly, enthusiatic staff
Worst Shopping Experience of my Life
by bondtg
Not all that glitters is gold. I went home in tears after an afternoon of shopping in this store. If you're not 5'11' and 110 lbs - stay out of this place. The clothes are made for skinny girls not curvy women. The sales staff care more about showing off their tattoo's and giggling with their friends than helping customers. After complaining to the owner I received a 2-page letter in defense of their sales staff.
- Pros: parking
- Cons: exorbitant prices , rude staff, pretentious
Horrible experience-
by jendgiles
I went searching for a pair of jeans and was so disappointed by the customer service. The woman was rude and repeatedly told me the jeans were "supposed to be like that" when I said I disliked the fit. Who cares who makes the jean? If they look bad, I'm not buying them, no matter what the self-serving sales person says. I left without the jeans that I was so set on buying that day.
- Pros: cool clothes
- Cons: terrible service
