Cool place, good breakfast, good coffee, great service

by rhender

I go to this place all the time. I love it. The waitstaff is extremely friendly. I have a lot of good memories going here with my Dad for years. He would always complain about the coffee, but they actually have really good coffee... Anderson's I believe. Anyway, I usually go for breakfast, and if you like a good simple breakfast and coffee, this is a great place. And it's cheap, and the service has always been really great in my experiences. I saw one person was upset with the service on here, but I've always had good service, and the waitstaff is extremely friendly.

For a simple meal that doesn't ever take a lot of time (in my experience) or money this is a great place. And sitting on the patio on a nice day is always great. My 2 cents.

  • Pros: Affordable, fast, friendly
  • Cons: none

get rid of your waitress

by simon63

Went to Red River Cafe because we had limited time, wanted a great, cheaply priced meal. We received our drinks and were quickly asked for our order. Needing a little bit more time we asked if she would give us a minute. However, our minute was too long because I had to get up to get her attention. We placed our order and waited for 30 minutes. After which time I asked about our order and the waitress forgot to place it. We walked out ignoring the apology that was given from not her but the other waiter.

Had good experiences in the past, but it just takes one on the wrong day to spur me to action in writing a review.

Relaxing atmosphere, tasty healthy gfood and easy on the pocketbook.

In Short
This cafe, a block from UT, has a mellow diner-like atmosphere with comfy booths and an outdoor patio. The menu offers a variety of breakfast, brunch and dinner, including fruits, freshly made salads and generously sized breakfast tacos, all at affordable prices. Meals are made to order, the staff friendly, and the service fast. It's open all week and easy to find; just look for a giant egg stuck to the front of a building.

RRC: Really Rad Cuisine!!!

by gongalongas

I would have to give this restaurant a 10 out of 10. My hamburger came with everything it was supposed to, including meat and a bun. I had to pay extra for fries, but they cooked the patty FOR FREE!!! My life partner got the breakfast tacos, which came with fillings and tortillas. The ratings only go up to 10, otherwise this place would be getting a solid 11 from me! LLRRC (Long Live Red River Cafe!!!!) FOREVER!

Great spot for people watching...

by fioness

I've lived down the street from RRC my entire life, and grew up on their avocado burgers. Their coffee is not of the super strong variety, but has a pleasant flavor and goes well with a relaxing breakfast or brunch. Inside the walls are bedecked with unusual artwork, but the real gem of the cafe is it's covered porch and it's great for people watching. The food is affordable and is served with a smile, but while some menu items shine (hello fat ultra-crispy french fries of my youth! Avocado burger, you still make me happy!), others may be a bit odd or disappointing (BLT, why are you so small? Breakfast tacos? Very unusual), but if you frequent RRC regularly, you will find items that you love, and stand by them. So thankful that places like this still exist (and within walking distance!)

  • Pros: Grea porch, pleasant service, inexpensive & tasty
  • Cons: some unusual recipes

Nothing to write home about

by annholds

Red River cafe is an average place with average food. The portions were pretty dismal, and the quality was only so-so. I ordered the club sandwich with a side of fruit, but the plate wasn't even full. For the fruit, I had a sliver of cantalope that was cut up into four different pieces. The lunch was hardly filling and not worth the $4.75, plus $1.50 for the coke.

  • Pros: atmosphere

fine prices, pretty average food

by jameswevley_citysearch

Red River cafe is never really packed. On a nice day, their patio is a great spot to enjoy the weather or do a little studying. The servers here have always been very nice.
