yucko basil tomato soup and dough
by 8jbill at Citysearch
I was looking forward to some different pizza... neither my wife nor I finished one slice... so much basil it almost tasted like mint, and the main topping appeard to be campbell's tomato soup.
gimme Conan's Savage on whole wheat ANY day of the week, and I'm done experimenting with new pizza places.
- Pros: none
- Cons: yucky pizza
This place is a joke
by mattnlori at Citysearch
If I could give this place no stars, I would. It's pretty obvious that anyone who has ranked this pizza higher than one star has never had a real chicago stuffed pizza, and probably ranks Mr. Gatti's right up there among the best pizza they've ever eaten. A real chicago stuffed pizza takes about an hour to cook not 20 minutes, and most importantly a slice of it CANNOT be picked up and eaten by hand. The crust on this piece of joy was a crisp flour crust (no sign of corn meal), the toppings were dominosesque, the cheese had actually hardened up in the pie when it came out to us, and it should have spilled out like molten lava. And worst of all the sauce tasted like Ragu with a splash of cayenne added just to make things interesting. Bottom line, I hate this place and also anyone who has ranked it high just because you are associated with perpetuating the myth that Mangia has decent pizza. I'm continually amazed at how bad the pizza is here in austin/round rock compared to everywhere else I've ever lived. If there are any transplants out there who have ever lived outside of Texas and can give advice on a good pizza place you found here, I would love to here about it.
- Pros: none
- Cons: everything
Not feeling the love, part II
by goblake at Citysearch
I don't know where you people have had pizza that you think this is the best in Austin but it certainly isn't chicago. I would rather eat at pizza hut than eat here again. Nothing was good about it. Sauce was too sweet, canned mushrooms... just not good. Will not return. Ever!
- Pros: Nothing!!!!!!!!!!
- Cons: Speaking of "cons" this place is a con calling it chicago style pizza
Try Rudino's for Chicago style pizza, Mangia's is way off
by slackerlova at Citysearch
Why they even have Chicago in their name is beyond me. Sauce is bad, toppings nothing special, meat average. How this place is voted best in Austin is scary.. If you here you're better off having a cesar salad; it was decent!
- Pros: Salad was ok
- Cons: Canned mushrooms are the worst get a clue Mangia!
Bad customer service
by salsera30h at Citysearch
I was craving a stuffed spinach Mangia's Pizza tonight so I called at 6:30pm and placed a pick up order. They told me it would be read in 25-30 minutes. I got there around 7:05 and it was not ready. At 7:20pm we found out they had not even put the pizza in the oven. At 7:30pm when the order still was not ready we asked for our money back so we could leave. We told the manager that the order was placed an hour ago and he told us that our order must have been overlooked and it would only be 15-20 more minutes! I've always been a fan of Mangia's but I don't think I'll be going back after this experience.
- Cons: Customer Service
How can this be?
by mjk1 at Citysearch
I don't understand how this place stays in business and gets such good reviews. Being from Chicago I had high expectations, but was very dissapointed. This is among the worst pizza I've ever tasted, it's overpriced, and just plain lousy. I've heard people compare them to Lou Malnati's, what a joke. This place would never make it in Chicago!
- Pros: none
- Cons: price, quality
Mangia Pizza

While I have not been to the location on Guadalupe, I have been to the Meas restaurant and was extremely disappointed. The service was sub-standard, the food was cold and over priced. This establishment is over rated and is not a good value.
- Pros: location
- Cons: expensive, poor service, sub-standard food
Austin's Best? I think not.
by bah1230 at Citysearch
I was disappointed with the service- we waited at the front while several waiters looked at us and continued chatting. Then our waiter took forever to appear. The pizza? I've had better!
Avoid it...
by javaman8263 at Citysearch
This pizza is aweful. It amazes me year after year how they get a good rating. The sause is like sludge, they put sugar in it, no flavor at all. It tastes like bland tomato paste. The crust on their pizza is doughy and dry. If you like good flavorful pizza, avoid Mangia like the plague.
OVERPRICED!

The pizza was okay...nothing spectacular...but the price was out of this world! Completely overpriced! What a rip off!
- Cons: Price, Food, Ingredients
