Great food
by Ausfood at Citysearch
never been to a Mangia restaurant. It was good. As a matter of fact, it was great food. I have never in the past reviewed restaurants but recently started and see it a great tool to share my experiences with my fellow diners. I've never been so full in my life. Good prices with good service. Top notch.
- Pros: food
- Cons: scene, not so much
Chicago-style pizza with a Southwest Flare
by katy_snell at Citysearch
This Austin landmark chain has a laid-back feel and a friendly, if off-beat, staff. The pizzas come in a variance of sizes and styles, and specializes in picante, salsa and Southwestern dishes. But perhaps the best part is that you can bring your own beer or wine to compliment whatever pizza you order.
- Pros: Tasty deep-dish and a lively ambiance.
- Cons: Because the pizzas are made on the premises, it sometimes takes awhile to make them.
Best pizza in Austin? Then I'm afraid to taste the rest of them...
by ohyeahlach at Citysearch
Tried this place simply for the fect that it was rated high on this list (plus it has our hometown in the name). The sauce was like a canned spaghetti sauce. Cheese was ok. Mushrooms, canned.
The menu was large so perhaps other items are better. The pizza is just not that great (especially if you're used to a good pizza like in the east or midwest). Rudino's is much better on 620 & Volente.
Oh how I miss my Lou Malnati's in Chicago!
- Pros: Service was friendly & attentive
- Cons: Not chicago style pizza!
It's okay
by plissken at Citysearch
With all of the raving by everyone I work with, I thought it would be exceptional. However, I found that it was just perhaps average, and in fact, a little bland. The absolute BEST pizza I've had yet in the Austin area is from a little place in Georgetown called the Brooklyn Pie Co. Oh my gosh, now THAT is amazing pizza! Full of flavor, MUCH better than Mangia, hands down.
- Pros: thick pizza, good toppings
- Cons: inconvenient location, food is just "okay", questionable service
cardboard crust
by virg at Citysearch
I have eaten there a couple of times and both times the crust was inpenetrable. I literally had to stab it with a knife to get a piece off. EXTREMELY FLAVORLESS!!! It is ridiculously priced as well. I think I would love Chicago pizza as long as this isn't it.
- Pros: nice waitstaff, cheap beer, prompt seating
- Cons: price, bad crust, not enough stuffing
I'm a skeleton here!
by mweston at Citysearch
Mangia has wonderful pizza, but their restaurant service stinks! The Mesa location wait staff disappears for seemingly hours on end while your empty glass melts ice, and your pizza's sit on the counter under heating lamps waiting to be brought to your table. Best call ahead and pick up your order - the service at home couldn't be worse!
- Pros: Good Value, Great Pizza
- Cons: Bad Service, Bad Service, Bad Service
OVERRATED OVERPRICED
by The_Chandler at Citysearch
Mangia "Chicago Pizza" is okay for people who haven't a clue what good pizza taste like. Unfortunately there isn't anywhere in Austin where you can get good authenic pizza, that I've tried anyway. I have to admit that there are a few on this list that I haven't tried. Brick Oven used to be okay 20 years ago, but it doesn't seem to be the same any more. The only good thing about Mr. Gattis is that their phone number is easy to remember because of their jingle. Otherwise their pizza is a joke. If you ever visit Chicago, go to Pizza Uno to discover what real Chicago style pizza taste like. Ropolo's comes the closest to what good pizza (non-Chicago style) taste like.
Pillsbury Dough Boy must be on the Board

We tried Mangia for the first time today, ordering a medium sized stuffed spinach (which costs about $19)... I'll have to agree with the person who said way too much sauce and overrated. Maybe the thins are better?
After scraping off the tangy and overwhelming sauce, you're left with this nasty doughy chunk of goopy bread and cheese/spinach which just wasn't that tasty for the price... (the sauce is on top, easy to take off).
I dunno... I'd eat here again if I had to, but would prolly just get a thin cheese slice... hopefully they don't mess that one up. I never understand how some of these places end up in the Best Ofs... then again, I'm from Portland and Starbucks ended up in the one of the Best Ofs once, so clearly these things aren't to be trusted.
Best pizza? how about overrated?
by dcopeland at Citysearch
Ok..Mangia's gives you very large, thick slices of pizza..so what? I have to say that they are way overrated. I've been there a few times (at different locations) and was disappointed each round. Not only did it take a long time just to get a personal pizza, but it had too much sauce and not enough flavor. Many people think this pizza is worth the price, but I say it's overrated and not worth the money.
- Pros: great location, good for kids
- Cons: slow service, overpriced, too much sauce
OK, not that great
by t0asty at Citysearch
Well its a local chain and its nearby, a plus. Cons: The pizza isn't that tasty; kind of bland for stuffed pizza. Too bad the nearest Pizzeria Uno is in Fort Worth; hint some friendly competition.
- Pros: Local
- Cons: Food is bland
