A Slice of Old School Texas, "Best Dive Bar" in Austin!. I've been going to the Texas Showdown for many years now. Long enough to join the prestigious Stein Club (basically my own mug to call my own which will always be there waiting for me.) This bar is well known for three things:

1. Great atmosphere

2. Great regulars

3. Great bartenders

Never will you walk into any other bar and be welcomed the first time like you have been going there for years. The people are friendly and the beer is plentiful!

And if you see anyone with a personal mug, they are the regulars and not to be messed with. The only problem? Frat guys in the daytime ordering lots of sandwhichs. There is only one bartender in the daytime so if he/she has to make many sandwhichs, the service slows down and you could end up waiting 5 minutes for a beer.…

Love this place. I really enjoy the Showdown. What is great is that it is a enjoyable bar with ample seating and interesting atmosphere. Plenty of beers to choose and great prices on the pitures. You can play pool, or darts or games. There is a juke box and a beer garden out back. What more do you need to consume the sweet necture of the Gods? I go to the Showdown regularly and have a great time when I go!…

Lowdown on the Showdown. The Showdown offers a refreshing alternative to all of the McBars that litter this town. It is one of the few remaining True Austin Bars - having been around for over 20 years. The beer selection is extensive and the food is classic pub grub. Best of all, for me, the glasses and pitchers are all kept ice cold. They've got some of the nicest bartenders in town. Even on the busiest nights, there is always room to find a good spot to chat or read.

In good weather, the beer garden out back is a sweet getaway from the chaos of the Drag.
