Don't bring your nice clothes. They don't do classy here.
by oforamuseoffire at Citysearch
Ugh, I just got back from the hipster hell that is Buffalo Exchange, and just a warning: a fair amount of bitterness follows. I brought some classy designer items in perfect condition to sell, and they didn't want any of them. I'm talking Betsey Johnson, BCBG, Neiman Marcus, etc. At first I was a bit bruised (because the snotty employees always make you feel like they are rejecting you and your style personally, and every snob working there thinks they're unique and cool with their ripped black tights, facial piercings and filthy hair--ask anyone who really knows how to rock the vintage look, and they would tell you that Austin hipsters are formulaic and tired. Here's a truly unique idea: DON'T get a tattoo or a facial piercing! But I digress....) Anyway, on my way out I looked around at the racks, and I suddenly had an epiphany: every piece of clothing in there is faded, wrinkled, ripped up trash. Like it came out of the bottom of the Goodwill reject pile. I don't mean that the clothes are in bad shape, I mean that the only clothes they think are cool enough to buy and sell are the ones that look like trash on purpose. I believe "distressed" is the adjective du jour. Anyway, if BE is on the cutting edge of trends, and the trend is trash, then I am happy to take my non-trendy clothes right back to my closet.
- Cons: snobby hipster employees, gross clothes, no parking
Satan runs this store
by rolycloud at Citysearch
It’s a thrift store….nothing more. I find the same items here that I would find at Goodwill and Savers, except Buffalo runs more expensive. The sales people are pure wicked, which I think is because they are being controlled by Satan. Oh, and never try to sell here. I tried to sell brand new items and slightly used items – DKNY, Prada, and Banana Republic….they wouldn’t take any of it. I’ve gone twice to sell and will never do it again. They judge you – not your clothes. Honestly, these people need a course in common courtesy and customer service. I have never understood why people take a job in retail, when they hate people.
- Pros: NOTHING
- Cons: Dirty store, Evil Salespeople, Horrible Prices and Selection
This Place is Awful DO NOT SELL HERE !!!
by marlow1228 at Citysearch
This place is horrible. I went here to try to sell a pair of new $100 jeans and they said that they wern't good enough for the store. The employees judge weather your clothes are good enough by what your wearing. That b#t@h looked at one shirt and was already unimpressed. she didn't even bother to look at anything else. she simply said that we can dontae this to charity if you like ??? what the ??? thoes clothes go right back on the storerack marked up to $15. They are jus rude people who think they are so cool just because they are weaing tights with holes. They walk around with thoes ugly peircings and tattos like theyr'e runway models and they so arn't NEVER SHOP HERE !!!
- Pros: okay clothes at okay prices
- Cons: rude, snotty, stuck up employees
Coolest castoffs around: Yeah right!!!

If you want to be treated like dirt by a buyer that dresses like she is a 1980's mental patient then this place is the place for you. Not only do they look down on you by the way you dress before they have even seen your stuff but they give you practically nothing for it , then turn around and sell it for 5 times as much.
Message to the sellers: wake up B#$c*@s! you work in a Thrift store, not for a designer in Paris or Milan!!!
If I could give this store a negative rating I would.
- Pros: Sometimes find a designer piece at an OK price.
- Cons: Everything: Rip off, rude staff, dirty store and change rooms, lots of junk.
RIP OFF
by luanpa at Citysearch
The employees who select the clothes to buy have absolutely no system of selection. They will rip you off when you try to sell your good clothes. Don't waste your time or money at this place.
- Pros: Local
- Cons: bad, random selection, employees are rude
Buffalo Bulls**t

I have been to Buffalo Exchange a few times and pretty much accept those trips as a few hours of my life I'll never get back. I read some of the other poor reviews on this site and generally agree. They have their hipster employees scowl at the stuff you bring in to knock you down a notch and make you think it's worthless so that you'll sell it to them at a really low price. They then turn around and mark it up 600% and sell it to the other hipster sheep in the store with too much money in their pockets. Save you time and energy. Give your stuff to goodwill or salvation army where the profits will go to people who really need the help.
- Pros: None worth mentioning.
- Cons: Can't be bothered to list them.
Bargain Hunting Pays Off!
by sirenseye at Citysearch
I just discovered Buffalo Exchange about two months ago, but I have had nothing but great experiences! I went in to sell some old clothes that I'd outgrown, and since I was a first timer, the super sweet buyer explained their system to me. If they decide to buy something from you, they mark it with a price right away. You either get 50% of their sell price in store credit or 30% in cash. Not too shabby! She also explained that certain brands (like from Target or Old Navy), they don't usually buy because the store trends change so often. Makes sense and seems pretty reasonable to me. Their inventory constantly changes and since they buy from random people, their selection is always random. I have found some great deals here, you may just have to spend some time looking for them!
- Pros: Ever-changing selection
- Cons: Parking is a pain
retail doesnt mean that your in the "fashion industry"
by thewiz at Citysearch
snooty store employees who think they are on the cutting edge of fashion... allow me to let you in on a little well known secret: no one who has been out of texas much less austin thinks you are a fashionista. your frumpy 80's dress, lame headband and cowboy boots make you look like a tool and not the runway model you think you are. this place is a joke. you get judged more on what you look like than what you have come to sell. if you arent dressed like a "buyer" or store employee than they pretty much let you know. i find better deals at the thrift stores than here. its also a pain to get to. overpriced used stuff with fickle buyers that have poor taste, poor selection and bad attitudes.
- Pros: some good stuff
- Cons: over priced, not worth the effort or irritation to find good items or sell
Not quite a vintage boutique, not quite a thrift store: Chic clothes on these racks are the coolest castoffs around.

In Short
The first Buffalo Exchange opened in 1974 in Tucson, Arizona, and has since become a famous-label junkie's delight. The eclectic inventory is built by loyal customers who bring in former favorites from their own closets to sell or trade. A constant turnaround of lightly worn men's and women's clothing and accessories keeps the bargain-hunting ground fertile for finds from the likes of Kate Spade, Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci and others.
bad service.

The first few times that I went to the exchange I was unimpressed with what i saw. used t-shirts at prices that you'd see at a retail store. The first time I sold, however, I was happy. I recieved 30 bux for a box full of junk clothes that my mom gave my girlfreind (that she never would wear...clothes I'll add she bought at walmart) the next time I went in (with some of the same junk they wouldn't take the last time and a few of my own things) I got about 70$. This last time today I went in with designer jeans and slacks and a few hoodies (zooyork, famous exc..) some brand new polo's that still had tags on them (some of the pants even had the tags on them) AND THE B*#$h WORKING THE COUNTER WOULDNT TAKE ANY OF IT!..she offered me 20$ for a famous hoody I paid 100$ for...I reluctantly agreed to that because I needed the gas money after being screwed over by a promoter at a gig in the valley. I also brought back an old blazer that I figured someone overtly trendy would love and she says "this isnt something we'd EVER buy" which was kind of funny..being that I bought it there in the first place. (yes I informed her of that..she had nothing to say other than.."well..i'm not buying it"..all this being said..I walked to the check out counter to get what I thought was going to be 20$ for the famous hoody and was handed 6$!!!... I responded with "the ticket says 19.99"..to which he responded.."thats instore credit..you'd only get 6$ out the door"..I politely handed the money back to him and went back to the smelly dirty blonde hippy that gave me the ticket and asked for my jacket back..before handing it back she removed a price tag that was already placed on it for 60$!!...THEY WERE GOING TO GIVE ME 6$ FOR MY JACKET AND SALE IT FOR 60$!!!!!
So i've come to the conclusion that what you get for your trade ins depends on the taste or "style" of the moron working the register...that is called..inconsistency..I wouldnt recomnd that place to anyone ever again....
- Pros: if you shop there people might think your cool for spending to much money on stuff someone else alraedy wore
- Cons: bad customer service and inconsistency..
