if you are looking for a great doctor this group is the one

by deliasmith

I moved to Austin about 5 years ago and after reseaching the web and asking friends and neighbors I chose to see Dr. Gupta. He has been wonderful to me and my family. I have had no regrets.

The office's walk in period has been convenient and was a life saver when my three year old was up all night throwing up. They recently added the IV center and my son was given medicine and fluids there. I thought he was going to send me to the ER on that visit but lucky for me they had this service. I would have hated to wait in the ER for the same service.

Dr. Gupta had always been correct in his diagnosis with me and takes the time to explain my options which allows me to be in charge of my own health. I have referred many friends to him and the rest of his partners over the years and have not heard one complaint. Some of my friens preffered a female doctor and have told me similar stories for what I have experienced with my doc.

  • Pros: absolutely the best
  • Cons: at times the parking lot is congested

excellent doctor

by michaelsmit

I was surprised to read the previuos review of my doctor. I feel that Dr. Gupta has outstanding clinical skills. He does not order unnecessary tests and diagnosed me correctly each and evey time. He is conscience about my time and his treatment plans have been right on target each time. I have seen him for over seven years and have recommended friends, family and colleagues to him. Many of them have since thanked me for the recommendation. Thier new location is very convenient with free parking right in front. You dont get that in centarl austin very much anymore. He has reffereed me a couple oftimes for some procedures in the past and the specialist he recommends have also been top notch. I cant say enough good things and I would styrongly recommend him to anyone who is looking for a caring doctor and person.

  • Pros: caring, listens and most importantly cures what ails me
  • Cons: none

Good care, but medical skills are only so-so

by wbohrer

About 10 years ago I was told that these guys were the best, but unfortunately the doctors with a lot of experience that I was given those references about were not taking new patients and the doctor that I was able to get an appointment with was just not very good - his diagnostic skills were non-existent. I had a severe lung infection so bad that I couldn't get enough air to complete a whole sentence without stopping for breath in the middle, and the doctor never thought to take x-rays, cultures, see if it was actually congestive heart failure (no, thank god) see if it was pneumonia, cancer, or... whatever! We finally caused the bacteria in my body to die (k*ll is a bad word on CitySearch!) after the third round of increasingly alarming antibiotics (in the meantime, on my own initiative, I got tested for HIV, because, you know, I'm gay, and I tell this to doctors, because although I'm "safe" it never hurts to be cautious and I AM in a high risk group) at which point I was left with my immune system in a wreck, a systemic yeast infection, losing weight alarmingly, constant v*miting, and I finally found a doctor at Central Family Practice, who unfortunately, retired. Caring is great, but competence also counts. A lot of the doctors who made this place a good place are no longer there.

  • Pros: Caring atmosphere
  • Cons: Diagnostic skills below par

Great Doctors/Office Staff/Nurses

by birdie1965

I was with Jefferson St Family Practice for about 10-11 years. First with Dr Rogge and then with Dr Garcia. She is the BEST. Very sweet, caring, compassionate...you dont feel rushed....she always listens. The same with the NP (Martha). A few years a go I had to change Primary Care Drs due to Insurance changes. I went to another office....staff was unfriendly....got appointment dates wrong. Could never get in to see my Primary Dr cuz she was always booked. I felt like I was just passed around....just another "co-pay". After a severe bout of pneumonia that went undiagnosed for a week. I went back to Jefferson Street Family....Luckily they had a new Dr there taking BCBS. I am so happy to be back at that office and feel like I am cared for medically and personally.

  • Pros: Thumbs up on everything....they are awesome

These Doctors Actually Spend Time With You

by mhbmhbmhb

This family practice is the best in town. I've had a few others primary care doctors, and none were this good. Dr. Garcia is my particular doc, and she is excellent. These doctors actually spend time talking with you, and you never feel rushed or that you are annoying them by merely being there and taking up their valuable time that they could be using to see another patient. They also aren't ones to immediately jump to a pharm solution - they are open other solutions (PT, homeopathic, etc.). Not so much that they are too granola, but just enough. They also have walk-ins without appointments in the early mornings - perfect if you wake up feeling like crap. Office staff is very nice, parking is easy (new location is great).

  • Pros: Great doctors!, Great doctors!, Great doctors!
  • Cons: None
