Authentic Neighborhood Tex-Mex
by carsleal
I recently re-discovered this local Mexican gem hidden in a strip-mall. We were looking for Spicy fresh salsa and thin chips to start with and were pleasantly surprised to find both. The queso came in a big bowl and was a perfect taste and texture. Cindy, our waitress, did not miss a beat. In fact, everyone here works together and makes sure you are not in need of anything. Lime margaritas to start hit the spot. Everything was on point, including the fabulous Verde and Tex-Mex sauces that covered the enchilladas and crispy beef tacos. Of course homemade corn tortillas are a must and done very well here. We remembered they had a great breakfast and plan to go back again soon. Don't miss the Caldo which is great to pick up to-go when you need something to cure what ails you. They seem to have a new bar area with TV's so maybe watching some Football is in store.
- Pros: Fresh Food, Spicy Salsa & Great Service
- Cons: Strip Mall - Simple Interior
Favorite Tex Mex Place EVER!
by volleyb22
La Posada is my favorite place in Austin for Tex Mex... The service is always fast and friendly and the food is amazing. Everything from the crispy tacos to the rice and beans (they are like butter) is just wonderful! I love the cheese enchiladas (great hangover material) and once I accidentally ordered a chicken enchilada and it was probably the best mistake of my life... You just cannot go wrong with La Posada!
- Pros: Great Food, Great Margaritas, Great Prices
- Cons: Only one location
good food and margaritas

We just recently tried La Posada as we just moved to the area. It was an awesome experience. The staff are extremely friendly, The food is well-priced, as are the drinks. We had combination dinners to try out different things since it was our first visit. Everything on our plates was fabulous, and so were the margaritas.
- Pros: food, staff, parking
- Cons: none

We have been eating at La Posada for over 5 years now - the food is alway good - the salsa is to die for!!! The staff has been there as long as we have been going and are extremely friendly!!
- Pros: good parking, friendly staff, excellent food
- Cons: small, crowded on weekends
Swanson frozen TV dinners are better

I just came from La Posada, I quickly seated myself, and the wait staff was very fast in getting my drink order and chips and salsa to the table. I commend them for the service up to this point.
I ordered the #5 combo, with a taco, tamale, enchilada, and fajitas. The chips appear to be bagged and were burnt in the warmer. The #5 combo was of ample size, but the quality was mediocre at best. The enchilada/tamale dish appeared to be ZAPPED seconds before being served. It was BURNING HOT outside, yet COOL inside; a sure sign of a microwave oven. The beef tips used for 'fajitas' appeared to be day-old and were tough. The taco was crispy and was just about right, had an ounce of liquefied fat not poured out after my first bite.
- Pros: Service, Price points
- Cons: Food, Food, Food
Best enchiladas so far...

And worth a drive to get them. Go hungry and get the combo plate that includes a crispy taco, bean chalupa, and two beef or chicken enchiladas. Taco and chalupa stay crispy through the entire meal. Enchiladas are served in a separate baking dish that keeps them super hot and melty. The salsa is fresh and just right.
Go in the middle of the afternoon if you're worried about a wait! You definitely won't be hungry again for a long, long time.
- Pros: Good Food, Good Service, Good Parking
- Cons: Ambience
Fabulous Tex-Mex in an unexpected place
by jmbauer
When I moved from the Southeast Austin to the Southwest part of town, I was afraid I wouldn't be able to find good Mexican food anymore. Well, it's right around the corner at La Posada. The salsa is fresh, spicy but not masochistic, and completely addictive. The tacos (with slightly puffy shells) and enchiladas are delicious, and the breakfast tacos & migas draw a well-deserved crowd on weekend mornings. Try it!
- Pros: Inexpensive, Good parking
- Cons: Crowded on weekends
