I was searching for a great place to have breakfast, and was shocked to see The Bakehouse listed as #1! I went there once, and only once, because I would never ever go back. I ordered your basic bacon and eggs, there was no one else in the restaurant, and it took 45 minutes to get my food. The bacon was old - so dry and hard I could not even bite into it - like it had been overcooked then left sitting for hours. My potatoes were completely inedible. Toast was barely toasted and soggy. I ate about 3 bites of it and could not manage to try any more. Awful awful awful. And the waitress. Could not possibly have cared less. Between ordering our food and getting it, we never saw her. After getting our food, we had to go tackle her to pay.
Pros: It is close to my house. Wish it was farther.
Cons: Awful food, awful service, terrible!

I came into the restaurant expecting really good comfort food. When pulling into the parking lot, the place simply looked dirty. Once we entered the establishment, the dirtiness continued. Even the tables that were set for the next customer will still dirty. The decor was simply cheap and lacking. The restaurant was pretty empty, but the service was horrendously slow. Took forever to get our drinks and food. After lunch, I asked the waitress for a glass of water, and she rolled her eyes at me. Instead of bringing me water, she vacuumed the entire restaurant and wiped off tables. Completely unacceptable. The food was greasy, unflavorful, and just plain bad. The burger meat was terrible. It was overcooked and full of gristle. The chicken fried tasted like grease. I will never come back to this horrible place.
Pros: None
Cons: Food, Service, Ambiance

I came here to try the German food, and found it to be average. The wiener schnitzel could of used some seasoning in the breading, but over all it was satisfying. Service was right on time and polite. The overwhelming collection of international foods is what will keep me coming back. Good atmosphere.

There are lots of interesting, delicious sounding items on the Bakehouse's menu. I loved the decor. However, the overall effect of the food was bland and lacking. My wife's bratwurst was great, but all of the side dishes, including the warm potato salad (which was described as "heaven" by our server) were acceptable, not memorable. I had a chicken florentine, stuffed with spinach and cheese. Very little flavor. I've had truly bad meals, and this was not one of them. There were many good sounding items on the menu. I wouldn't drive far to give it a second chance.
Pros: decor was great, brats were tasty
Cons: flavor of everything else.

The Bakehouse menu is way too ambitious. I oder one thing only here: the chicken fried steak. This is the best CFS in Austin and one of the better ones in Texas. The meat is real round steak, not cube steak, and the batter is good. Not perfect like my grandma used to make-but good. The cream gravy is perfect. Stay away from the international stuff. I do disagree with the reviewer who disliked the sausage crisp. It is a pretty good dish. The only thing that I would order if I didnt want CFS. Unfortunately, criticism of the staff is not unfounded. As far as I can tell the owners have always had problems keeping good waiters and waitresses. I dont let it bother me though. I will put up with a lot for decent cream gravy.
Pros: Funky place with lots of Keep Austin Weird vibes.
Cons: Funky place with lots of Keep Austin Weird vibes.

I signed onto Citysearch just so I could review this horrible establishment as my first message! Fiance and I decided to try out the Bake House since we pass by it daily. We should have kepy on driving. We went on a Sunday afternoon around 3pm. There were no more then 5 tables being used in the whole place and the service was horrible! First server was frantic and sweating on the floor. Second one was bummed that she had a table to tend to. Third server didnt like to talknorsmile. We never recieved refills and were basically ignored except when "sweaty waitress" ran to the bathroom sobbing, she did make eye contact then. The food was bland and experimental. The only good thing were the orange slice and 3 grapes that come on every plate! Beef stroganof and grapes. Mmmm. Yea no. We ordered the sausage wrap thing. OMG it was the salty right from a package greasy store bought kind with nasty cheese in the middle of a raw loaf of bread. I was physically ill after eating it. No seriously we went to the mall after and I had to duck in the restroom and be sick. The decor looked like my high school geography class. If you wonder why there are no globes for sale in Austin its because the Bake House bought them all! Atmosphere was lacking. The staff needs some serious customer service training and the cook needs to lower his voice when he screams for the waitstaff to come back to the kitchen. I felt like I was watching my friend get yelled at by her dad. Very awkward. Bottom line this place needs to go. Nothing good can come from it. Well the rice.... that was good.
Pros: Nothing
Cons: Service, Ambience, FOOD!

I remember when they opened the Bakehouse. I had a birthday party here. I have seen so many waitresses come and go, but the quality and the comfortable casual feel remains. If you are hungry at breakfast, Carlos' favorite omelette cannot be beat. I do not have to eat again the rest of the day when I order this! Yesterday, I ate lunch here with two friends and we were all quite satisfied with what we got. I got cod, one friend got a chicken potpie, and the other got beef fajitas. I have always like to bring friends here because the atmosphere is welcoming and the people here are nice. In the past, there have been some lousy waitresses here and the manager is normally unfriendly, but I can overlook this because the atmosphere and food are good.
Pros: varied menu, currently have good waitresses
Cons: manager not accomodating, employees loud and rowdy when not working

the service was terrible ( maybey they think if you dine alone that you should be ignored). The food was bland , as well as not very fresh. nothing was hot or cooked to order. it was the only resturant that i ate at the whole day and so there was no doubt in my mind that it could have been then only place that made me spend the next day in a half hoovered by the toliet in pain. The food there gave me foodd poisonig. please take my advice. do not share the wealth. it was not worth the doctors visit the next day and the time and money lost due to poor food preperation.

I am surprised to see this resturant with this high of a rating I hvae given the Bakehouse a try on 2 occasions and both time were pitiful. No only did the food give the impression it was microwave tv dinners, buit the service was lacking. Less than attentive servers and bored looking hosts topped off the expierence.
Pros: Location
Cons: Everything else. Food, Waitstaff, decor.

Not sure how this is rated so high. The food and service isn't anything special. The only advantage is that it's one of the few sit-down restaurants with a bar in the area. Hopefully more people will review this place and give it a more reasonable score.
Pros: one of only a few restaurants in the area with a bar
Cons: not really that great
