I like Rudy's, it isn't the greatest, but it is what it is. A fast food barbecue place. Before Rudy's, I can't really remember where I used to go and get tasty quick, Que. Everything there is good, but the "eckrich style" sausage is just that. You can't really hold it against them though, how else do they have the time to make their own sausage.
Pros: Quck Service Barbecue, the brisket is real brisket, not shoulder
Cons: rubbery sausage

I wont partonize here after how i witnessed the immature and rude counter staff, and their supervisor, berate an elderly couple (who were in the right) for so long that the woman became embarrassed and had to leave the counter. then they overcharged me, the next person in line. food is variable, sometimes dry, but the staff is reliably aggressive and unfriendly.
Cons: rude staff

Assembly line approach, and the order takers and meat prep staff need supervision. They don't appear to have any quality goals at all. Average BBQ, a elementary school cafeteria dining experience.
Pros: If you Need Gas just Happen to Get Hungry at the Same Time. . .
Cons: No service and elementary school cafateria experience

Love this place... especially the meats. The sides are good, too. The creamed corn is naughty but so good. Busters has better slaw in my opinion. Love the rookie show they put on, love the beer in the tubs, etc.
Pros: BBQ
Cons: none

I have been to a few other BBQ places in Austin (Pok-e-Joes, Iron Works, Salt Lick), and I enjoy coming back to Rudys more often than I do Salt Lick (it is a ways out there). I strongly recommend getting the Extra Moist Brisket and the Creamed Corn. The BBQ sauce they offer is nice and tangy with a little bit of kick to it, which is completely different than the BBQ sauce you find at Salt Lick. I recommend this place to anyone that is a BBQ fan or to anyone in Austin. If you get your hands dirty, you can always use the automatic hand washer that they have near the restrooms. It's like a Jacuzzi for your hands!
Pros: Great BBQ
Cons: You can get a little messy, but it is worth the satisfaction in your stomach!

When we first moved to Austin I was very disappointed at the horrible BBQ places we kept ending up at. We finally decided to try Rudy's even though it was in a gas station...boy am I glad we did! This is the best BBQ I've ever had. Their meat is so tender and so juicy; the cream corn is heavenly. The sauce is great, but I can eat the meat w/o it; that's how great it is. My family from Houston always asks us to bring Rudy's in whenever we visit; THAT'S how good this place is.
Pros: Best BBQ in town.
Cons: $$$ - but you get great food.

Like most people in Texas, I've gone out of my way to try as many barbeque places as possible - so I like to think my opinion is well-considered. In my experience, the meat at Rudy's is consistently the best - "lean" brisket that really is lean but still very tender, moist and smoky turkey breast, nicely textured sausage that's juicy but not greasy. The St. Louis ribs are sometimes a little heavy on the rub, but still really tasty. Rudy's sauce hits the right balance of vinegar tang and tomato-molasses sweetness with a heavy shot of black pepper - it's my favorite sauce. The beans (ranch-style pintos) are loaded with black pepper and shredded brisket, the cole slaw is sweetly creamy but not heavy, and the potato salad has that rich touch of egg yolk and a light onion tang. I personally avoid the creamed corn, which is basically corn kernels in a mayonnaise-textured sauce.
Pros: all you could want in BBQ
Cons: prices are steep but fair

Where else can you get your pick of extra moist OR extra lean brisket? (Hint to the previous reviewer -- you should have chosen the extra lean if you don't like fat!) It's the little details that make Rudy's the king of Austin BBQ. From the Dublin Dr. Pepper to the perfectly buttery creamed corn, it's all about the food. The space is comfortable too -- big long picnic tables inside and outside. And the sauce! (Sause) It is the perfect blend of sweet and spicy and vinegary yet still thick enough to stick. They also do a mean pork rib, as well as turkey and sausage. Even the price is right -- I've used their Group Meal to feed several parties and always had plenty left for snacks the next day. And if you are out of gas, they have a gas station too! Amazing!
Pros: Delicious meats, Yummy sides, Wide sel. of drinx
Cons: cannot think, of a single, one

After hearing many people tell me that Rudy's is the best BBQ in Texas, I finally got to try it and I was so disappointed. The food was below average. The super moist brisket was tender but too fatty for my taste and the sides were just plain and bland. By far, this is not the best BBQ in Texas.
Cons: Too loud

I have had my share of BBQ country wide and Rudy's is by far the best. I would put there BBQ up against anyones. The taste is the greatest and when you add there famous Rudy's sauce you will se why the are the best. Regular pork ribs with the sauce and then some regular brisket in side a couple of pieces of bread, onions, pickles, manoaise, and of course some Rudy's sauce is my usual.
Pros: taste, sauce, overall experience
