Dan's the man...
by wjaxon
Been eatin' hamburgers at Dan's (and yes, I admit... Fran's, too) forever. Now I feel like kids in a divorce having to choose between the two. Happily, I love 'em both!
- Pros: Best Hamburgers, esp. with jalapenos!
- Cons: Sometimes the large dbl. meat & cheese bun falls apart...
Unimpressed... tastier burgers can be found elsewhere... I WISH THERE WAS AN IN-N-OUT HERE!
by willeatanythingGOOD
I had several locals tell me the history of this burger joint & how great their food is. So my hubby & I tried it today. The place was packed, but service was quick. We got our order hot & fresh... took a bite into it, and wasn't impressed. The burger was definitely better than Mighty Fine's or any other fast food joints out there.
I still say an IN-N-OUT "animal-style" burger is unbeatable. After eating one, you want another! The burgers are packed w/ flavor. Not just some greasy patties dressed w/cheese & bacon. Unfortunately, IN-N-OUT's are only in Cali, AZ, & Vegas. So if you're looking locally... check out P.Terry's on S.Lamar & Barton Springs. The burgers are tasty & the fries are similar to IN-N-OUT's -- a freshly cut potato that's never been frozen. =)
Good, Not Great.

Dan's offers a perfectly respectable burger that will satisfy most burger cravings. Not greasy (enough). Burger was served hot, ingredients were fresh and of high quality, and the patty was juicy. Very nice and the service was prompt. Although this burger is not the greatest, it ranks up there and is more memorable that Hut's. Unless you are absolutely craving Dirty Martin's, this place will do. By the way, the shakes are definitely thick. Like the burgers, they are not the best in town, but I would certainly order one again.
The Lamar location is infinitley better than any experience I've had with the one on Manchaca.
Although Dan's can be considered as being truly Austin, it simply lacks the "Keep Austin Weird" personality of a place such as Dirty Martin's. Still, Dan's is what it is and although it isn't perfect, I'd hate to see it change.
- Pros: Everything I've had has been very good.
- Cons: I'll probably never crave anything from Dan's.
Looking for cheap eats with tasty burgers? Than Dan is your man...

Went to this place at lunch time on a Friday. Although packed, some how their system works. Burgers, fries and onion rings were all very good. Prices very cheap. I didn't think the burgers very very greasy at all, compared to Hut's Dan's beats em in taste and Hut's wins as more greasy and much more pricey..
Neg: Poor parking lot, atmosphere (decor is zilch).
- Pros: Burgers, fries, onion rings
- Cons: Parking lot, lack of decor
Can't get the order right

Was looking forward to eating what I paid for. The "add jalepeno's" on my burger consisted of a 1/16" sliver of the end of jalepeno and that was it. I got ripped off. The burger would have benefitted from this addition.
Beats fast food anyday

If you are going to get a quck burger and fries, dump McDonald's and come to Dan's. The service is quick, and the food is awesome. I have never had a bad burger here and The fries come out fresh, hot, and delicious. They only accept cash so be prepared before you go, but this is one of my favorite places for a fast meal.
- Pros: Great Burgers/ Fries
- Cons: Cash only - be prepared before you go
yummy yummy burger

One would think that this kind of food would be bad for your health, but the average age of the clientelle here is about 100 so they must be doing something right. SImply the best burger anywhere. And the breakfast is wonderful as well. Their breakfast tacos have hasbrowns in them which makes them just perfect. The burger is fantastic - something about the way the burger blends with the cheese & the bun all practically melting together .. superb! It's everything a buger should be - yes it's greasy (that means juicy), but who wants an old dried up blackened burger? Not me! The staff is always super-nice as well. But the morning staff does seem a little stressed out sometimes, because it is always SO busy in there for breakfast. A+
- Pros: delicious
- Cons: cholesterol
Great hamburgers and cheese burgers. Fries and onion rings always hot and fresh. Can't go wrong here.

You can't beat the quaility and the price anywhere. We take our out of town guests to Dan's when they are looking for a great old fashioned hamburger. They could add something like corn dogs for the little kids to their menu, but really we have no complaints at all.
Old-fashioned, greasy, fried-on-the-grill burgers in a no-frills setting.

In Short
This rough-around-the-edges burger-joint has been Austin owned and operated since its inception. Order at the counter, just like in the days of old. Those with droopy eyes and pounding heads opt for a greasy, hangover-fixin' breakfast of fried eggs, hash browns and salty sausage. Pancakes, cheesy omelettes and breakfast tacos are some other early morning favorites. Then there's the basics: Burgers, fries and thinly sliced onion rings, all washed down with thick chocolate shakes.
BEST HAMBURGER...... EVER !!!!
by skinnyhomer
Just Moved to Austin 2 months ago. I tried it once after being in town after a week or so and now I am addicted. Hands down the best hamburger I've ever had. The only thing I don't like about Dan's is that it is not in my backyard.
- Pros: tasty
