Wonderful!
by youarewhatyoueat
Quacks 43rd has quite an impressive variety of baked goods! They have some of the best carrot cake and chocolate cake (especially with the ganache!) that I've had anywhere. The cupcakes are amazing! From the REAL vanilla bean buttercream topped white cupcake, (also the best white cake I've ever tasted) to the fancy lemon meringue filled with luscious lemon curd, and topped with perfectly swirled and toasted meringue, it's a sight to behold!
The decorated shortbread cookies are the best tasting and most beautiful in all of Austin!
The chocolate chip cookies are the best I've had in my life. The ginger krinkle is also high on my list.
The fresh pastries they put out every morning are divine. I especially recommend the cinnamon rolls or butter croissants. And the apple cinnamon pie never disappoints. Everything here is made from scratch!
The atmosphere is easygoing, and it's quite a popular spot in the Hyde Park neighborhood.
One slight turnoff would be, say, the vagrants loitering around and/or panhandling customers outside, and coming in to fill up on free condiments. No wonder they took away the free water pitcher. It's seemed to help quite a bit. Thanks, management!
lost its charm

Remember when... down on the drag? Well they have removed the free water jug, and are actively running
away, with words and action, long time customers. And then management wonders why business is declining. Oh well its my money and I choose people friendly enviroments to share it with.
- Pros: they've managed to stay open
- Cons: thry've managed to stay open
ALMOST perfect

Okay, everyone is right. This place is great, great coffee, great baked goods, great place to hang out or study. But I've got one beef with Quacks that really bothers me. It's how they act when you're there late.
See, Quacks officially stays open until 1AM. But come about 12:15, sure enough, the music will be jacked up to whole new volume levels, and the guys working the store will start coming up to your table and sweeping, cleaning, right up next to you, like they're BEGGING you to figure out that they're trying to close soon. I understand they don't want to stay there until the wee hours of the morning, but if you don't want people to stay there until 1AM, don't make your official hours stay open til 1AM!!!! Some of us who study our lives away are attracted to Quacks because it stays open relatively late, but it's just kind of rude to make me feel like I'm past my welcome if I stay past 12:30.
That being said, I keep going back because of the damn good coffee and damn good baked goods.
Dirty Quacks I love You
by supercindy
Ok, I love this place but you guys might want to work on the display area...I really don't like to see Fly's trapped behind glass dancing all over the Salty Oat Cookies I am about to buy. Quacks is fun I highly recommend the Salty Oat Cookies and Carrot Cake. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THE ROSEMARY APPLE PIE...I can see where you were going with it but I think you missed the boat slightly. The staff is your typical mix of Oppressed Upper Middle Class Suburban UT Students' (we all know they can be a bit rude at times) The Goods can be a bit stale sometimes and I am always worried about finding a beard hair on my brownie. Enjoy.
- Pros: Salty Oat Cookies
- Cons: Apple Rosemary Pie

In Short
As renowned for its sugar-coated cinnamon rolls and muffins as it is for its anything goes vibe, this bakery maintains a distinctive Summer of Love-hangover atmosphere. The diverse clientele at this Hyde Park neighborhood institution includes not only students and musicians, but also young adults and families. Check out Quack's soups, espresso shakes and a wide array of organic juices.
Mmm good coffee
by vivlovestoeat
I really like Quacks! The parking can be a little difficult sometimes, but it's worth it. If you're looking for a chance to try this place out, just look at the back of your HEB receipt - I got a coupon for 75c off a coffee and a muffin, which was how I found the place in the first place! You won't be disappointed.... however, you may want to pass on the bran muffin - it's not as good as the regular muffins. Oh, and the coffee is delicious :)
- Pros: good coffee, relaxing atmosphere
heaven in hyde park

I've been coming to Quack's regularly for the past four years that I've lived in Austin. I've tried just about everything on the pastry menu and it's always been delectable! I especially recommend the brownies and the eclairs. It's also a great atmosphere to study for a few hours. If only they still had the bottomless cup of coffee...
- Pros: great pastries, good value, study spot
Yummy

Their Key Lime Pie is the best that I have ever had. It is perfect, but you have to buy it while you can. They tend to disappear fast. All of their pies and cakes are good though. I also like their cookies. My favorite is the ginger crackle. It is really spicy and yummy. The atmosphere is nice too. It's got that tucked away in a neighborhood feel to it, and it is dog friendly. They have a little bowl with free doggy treats.
- Pros: good hours, people watching, nice neighborhood
- Cons: supply versus demand
