Fast, Cheap, Good!

Headline says it all. Take a tums with you...but the food is great, prices are even better. Downside is the seating but hey, it's Austin...Pop the hatch on the back of your SUV, or pull down the tailgate and you are good to go. Mmm, i want a carne guisada right now.

• Pros: Food and turn around time.
• Cons: seating

No tamales

They should change the name, because they don't have tamales anymore. They have tacos (breakfast and regular), enchiladas, dinner plates, etc., but no tamales.

Neighborhood dive serves quick, cheap authentic Mexican staples.

In Short
Small and always crowded, this Mexican find attracts all kinds, including nearby university students and professionals in transit. As the sign posted states, the lack of air-conditioning may be uncomfortable but it keeps costs down. To-go is popular as there are only a couple of tables available outdoors. Heaping breakfast tacos are the biggest hit with over seventeen varieties. The menu includes other standard Mexican dishes, like crispy tacos, migas, huevos rancheros and chalupas.

With the prcies at the Tamale House, they're practically giving them away and the best part about it is the food is fantastic. For under 3 dollars, you can get some of the best breakfast tacos in an astounding array of combinations. Plus they have awesome homemade salsa (spicy) to boot. Everytime I've been there's been a line to the door, but the service is fast and I'm usally out with tacos in hand in about 5 minutes. You won't be disapointed, and if your are then it can be assumed that you have no breeding or culture.

Talk about Tacos

Their breakfast tacos are so good, we have made it company procedure to gather in the conference room and eat tacos from the Tamale House every Friday morning. I thought that with such a large order I would need to call it in...but when I told her what I needed, she didn't blink an eye. They are used to placing large orders and work fast to deliver hot food quickly. Yummie and Cheap, you can't ask for anything better.

• Pros: Inexpensive
• Cons: Hard to find

I used to live around the corner from the Tamale House. You really can't beat the prices here. You can fill up on breakfast tacos for $2-3. Lunch is the same.
