Mediocre Food and ambience
by lucche
My wife is vietnamese and she was curious to try this place since it was so highly reccomended:
We tried 3 different dishes; all of them were mediocre and tasteless.
The place mediocre as well.
Service was Ok maybe because someone in our table was speaking vietnamese.
The only good thing is that is not expensive.
Overall: I do not reccomend that place.
Great Food

The food was great! The decor is what I expect in an Asian restaurant. A good place for a casual meal. But don't expect to impress anyone.
- Pros: Good Food
good food vs. service
by alexicon2
I have recommended this restaurant to many friends with specific dishes to try. The food is flavorful and close to homecooking. The Vietnamese egg rolls (cha gio) are good. The catfish in clay pot is a dish that my mom used to make that you can't get at very many restaurants - the catfish is cooked and rendered in its own fat in a brown caramelized sauce that is slightly spicy. It's delicious with just plain, white jasmine rice. The Vietnamese crepes are delicious and made with shrimp and pork the way that they are supposed to be. The service is NOT top notch but fair to middling. I come back for the food that's decently priced. Their lunch specials are a great value. I have taken my whole office there for lunch and everyone found something that they liked on the menu and had to take to go boxes.
- Pros: catfish in clay pot, great prices
- Cons: not stellar service
Amazing lemongrass tofu.
by maozed
Every time I go to Sunflower, I get the lemongrass tofu. I've tried other dishes, but none of them ever compared to the lemongrass tofu. It is excellent. The spring rolls and thai tea are also good. I've never had problems with service like the other reviewers - they've always quickly complied when we asked for a pitcher of water, etc. I've never had to wait to be seated. My friends and I go here often, and it's always lemongrass tofu for everyone. They also have a lunch special where you get a salad and pineapple soup with your entree. I didn't care for the soup, but the salad was pretty good. There is also a Hong Kong Market in the same shopping center for unique shopping after you eat.
- Pros: Lemongrass tofu
Best vietnamese food in town

I can't have enough of their imperial rolls and the fried prawns on garlic noodles.
Good food, terrible service
by elibutton
This place would be out of business if they did not have good food or variety like curry dishes. They are not service oriented, seem annoyed, and have made several mistakes on accurate ordering. They are terrible at refilling the water. I have been there twice, the 2nd time was confirmation that customer service was not a core competency. Due to this I have avoided this restaurant, but will make it back if I get the craving again.
- Pros: good food, curry dishes
- Cons: , bad service
AUTHENTIC
by zenigeva
Being Viet, I can say that this place truly rocks when it comes to authentic vietnamese food. Triumph Cafe is NOT even on the same level. I highly recommend this place!
- Pros: nice workers, great food, inexpensive
Unassuming atmosphere and mediocre service disappear after tasting incredibly fresh, flavor-infused Vietnamese food at surprisingly low prices.

The Scene
Decor highlights include two walls of windows and flowers on each table. Staff serve food quickly then tend to be scarce; ask for whatever you may need at the beginning. Solo diners and groups of all ages dine at Sunflower, especially lunchtime weekdays.
The Food
Spring rolls feature rice paper encasing generous, bright pink shrimp, shredded pork, fresh mint and vermicelli noodles. Tangy peanut sauce with a red-chili splash complements. Vietnamese calamari salad with shredded cabbage and carrots successfully combines strong flavors. Mint and peanuts enhance seafood; fried garlic topping adds zing plus unusual texture. Noodle soups, like all selections, are large. Recommended chicken noodle has comforting, rich broth thick with tender chicken and scallions. Lunch specials include hearty imperial rolls (dense pork-vegetable filling) and refreshing citrus soup containing pineapple, tomato chunks and cilantro: imagine warm, wonderfully spiced fruit punch.
Great food

Dishes are real good there and place setting isn't too bad for Vietnamese restaurant but the service was real bad. As we entered the restaurant till we left waitresses didn't smile or greet us. They took forever to take the order and when we asked for some plates & hot sauce they keep forgetting to bring them. It wasn't even a busy day. There were only four tables including us. When we asked them again to bring the plates the lady looked at us as if she's pissed. Yikes!
- Pros: Good food, inexpensive
- Cons: slow service, rude
excellent but unknown

Sunflower has become a lunch staple for my wife and I. However, I recommend it most for dinner.
So far, we haven't found a dish that has not been excellent. As she is a vegetarian, and I am a carnivore, it has worked out well for both of us.
The atmosphere isn't exactly romantic, but the food sets the tone for your visit.
Few people have heard of Sunflower, but this is some of the best food Austin has to offer for a fair price.
- Pros: Well-spiced dishes, good portion sizes, inexpensive
- Cons: Interesting soup
