Note to diners - this is one of my FAVORITE restaurants in Austin, but today, 3/30/2009, Koreanas suffered from a huge fire.
- Pros: Best Beef Gulgogi in town!
- Cons: What are the drawbacks?
Wife said best meal in a long time.... I thought what an incredible Happy Hour deal for the money!
by SoccerSteveNAustin
Wow- I was about to give it a glowing review- then I read the negative review regarding service. Let me just say that if you are trying to split tickets and your total bill during happy hour is $9 and you want to charge that, you should probably stay home.
I have been about 3 times in the last month twice for lunch and once last night for an early dinner. I have only tried the sushi fare, but it has been exceptional, in both quality and portion. Went for lunch first time Lunch menu roll specials where you get a roll and 4 pieces of Sushi. The Sushi was excellent in both flavor and portion, especially compared to some of the fish slivers I have gotten at other more well known Sushi establishments in town. We split a dessert., tempura cheesecake. It was ridiculously good, Two weeks later we had the same excellent results at lunch.
Last night I took my wife in, and she's not too experienced with sushi but upon walking in immediately liked the soothing atmosphere. We arrived about 6 and the happy hour was still going and they had a nice variety of $5 sushi rolls on the happy hour menu. They also had beer and wine $1 off, I don't think they serve mixed drinks, but we had two beers each. We ordered three happy hour rolls and the New York Roll. The happy hour rolls were a definite bargain, the New York Roll was to die for. One of the best rolls I have ever had, anywhere! To our surprise we found out that we also got 20% off the full sized roll because it was a Monday (good to remember!) . My wife commented it was the best meal she had in a long time... I thought $44. She regularly eats at Ruth's Chris, Flemmings, III Forks for work, so that was a high complement, though in fairness in a group setting, the quality is often lesser than eating on your own.
Go to happy hour to try it out, the price is certainly more than reasonable for the quality. We plan on making it part of our regular dining rotation, and will probably be back again next week.
- Pros: $5 Happy hour Sushi rolls, great quality for the price
- Cons: Just beer and wine
Best sushi restaurant

Koreana is the best sushi restaurant I've ever tried. Fiesta, Longhorn and Krunchy Kream rolls are fantastic. The fish is so fresh. Beside the food, the interior is gorgeous and romantic. We also enjoy their drink specials which they have every night. You'll feel like royalty after the royal treatment you get from the personel there.
Bad Service

The food here is good, but yes, awful service. The waitresses here need to learn about service and personality. The portions could be bigger for the prices they charge. Would not recommend to others.
Great food, but awful service

I went to a happy hour gathering with some friends from to Koreana, and while we were all delighted by the menu choices, and happy with the food we received, we had the entire experience ruined by the restaurant's dishonest policies regarding payment. We requested that the check be split, but the waitress informed us she couldn't. Furthermore, if paid part with cash, and part with credit cards, there would be a $15.00 minimum charge on the cards (meaning several of us were forced to leave 6.00 or more tips on about 9.00 worth of food. This wouldn't have been so bad if the waitress hadn't brought us a check that had none of the happy hour discounts on it, and charged full prices for menu items that were supposed to be half-price. She even charged us full tax and tip on the items based on what they would normally be priced. In short they were trying to charge us double what we owed. It took about 20 minutes for us to sort out the prices and the amounts we each owed, and the manager even had the gall to come forcefully ask us how we were paying. So be aware that this restaurant is dishonest towards groups and puts customers second. Otherwise, enjoy the food. No complaints there.
Great food and atmosphere

I have been to this restaurant quite a few times and have found it to be outstanding. As a date location on valentine's day, it was beautifully decorated with many roses in addition to their usual orchids. The atmosphere is always lovely and definitely makes you feel like you are in a true asian venue. The food itself is excellent. I have especially enjoyed the eel steak on several occasions, and everyone who I have brought their has been extremely happy with their dish. It is a little bit on the pricey side, but the cost is well worth it if you are looking for a nice romantic dinner or just outstanding asian food in a lovely venue.
- Pros: Excellent food and service and romantic atmosphere
- Cons: A bit on the pricey side
The worst Japanese/Korean restaurant in Austin
by cherrypie888
I went for lunch today and ordered Jap Chae (clear noodle dish). It was disgusting; it tasted like it has been in the freezer forever. (Seems like the food has been sitting in the freezer for a long time and some kind of odd smell got into the food.) The veggies and the meat were not fresh and the kimchi that came with the dish was tasteless.
It was my 2nd time to the restaurant. I didn't have a very good impression the first time I went but I gave it another chance. The meal was rather expensive and the service was just average. I will not recommend anyone there nor go again myself.
- Cons: Bad food, not fresh, disgusting!
Great Korean American

My wife being Korean and I were impressed. The Service was excellant and the Food was Tasty. The Ambiance was delightful and pleasant. We did not try the Sushi or Sachimi this time around but a Planned "Next Visit" is in order. Thumbs Up.
- Pros: Many
- Cons: Too few to Mention.
