Inconsistent quality, poor customer service

by wlyons

Several nights ago I ordered the duck and it was excellent. I took my girlfriend back tonight and we recieved two inedible duck entrees. In addition, the waiter took forever to take our drink order and after that would disappear for long periods of time. Upon learning of our disatisfaction he removed one of the entrees from the bill, but--unbelievably--charged me $1.50 to substitue mashed potatoes for asparagus. Of course I had to get up from the table and shuffle around restlessly to get the waiter's attention so that we could pay the bill.

Great food and atmosphere for the price

by helenwt

My husband and I had a date night in this restaurant and were very please with both, service and food. I couldn't call it fine-dining but neither this place was casual. Something in-between. The prices were great for what you are getting. We had a full meal with an appetizer, salads, two entrees, bottle of wine, a dessert - all under a $100 + tip, I believe. I guess, I recommend this place for anyone on a budget who still desires a dicent atmosphere and good cooking.

Excellent!

We went here on a whim on a Thursday night. The food was wonderful-try their delicious spinach artichoke cheese soup! We had a great waiter who allowed us to try several wines before selecting one. He was quite knowledgeable and made the meal that much better!

Best food and wine for the price anywhere!

by kkeeper

Mirabelle is a jewel in Northwest Austin with impeccably prepared cuisine, and I do mean cuisine! The wine list is the best in Austin for those of us who love a great wine, but don't want to pay $50 a bottle for it. Wines by the glass, unusual vineyards and great recommendations make this my place to go for a great wine experience and the food is consistently wonderful. My husband and I have made Mirabelle our "date place" for years and Patrick Vilim is the consummate host. It only takes a few visits to make you a "regular" at Mirabelle, greeted with warm smiles and great hospitality. Try it for your next date. I guarantee you will spend anywhere from $20-$50 less at Mirabelle for the same quality you will find at other 4 star restaurants. Bon appetit!

  • Pros: Great food and wine for a great price. Private space available for large parties.
  • Cons: None that I could find.

North Austin sibling to downtown favorite Castle Hill Cafe.

In Short
The strip-mall exterior belies a warm, cozy interior: ochre-painted walls hung with bold paintings and handmade ceramic platters. Subdued lighting, oak floors and beveled glass create an aura of relaxed sophistication. Middle-aged-to-older couples dominate the clientele. Asain duc spring rolls come with a papaya-lemongrass dipping sauce. Saffron lamb features a tower of meat surrounded by fresh green beans and mushroom ravioli in a meaty saffron sauce

Gone down hill

by branv

I had to come back and edit my previous review from 2003. What happened to Mirabelles? It was our go to place for special occasions. Their Prix Fixe menu offered Fri and Sat elevated this restaurant to one of the best in Austin - their regular menu is good, but not above and beyond many other restaurants. However, they've stopped offering this menu, and the food we ordered from the regular menu was overcooked and not as good. Did a chef leave? Service has gotten very spotty as well - inattentative way too often. Makes us very sad to say that by 2005 we no longer saw a reason to visit this restaurant over any other in its price range.

  • Pros: food, wine
  • Cons: spotty service, no prix fixe

awesome service

by sameer2222

i went there with two other friends the other night. I'm a strict vegetarian and there wasn't much on the menu to meet my dietary needs but they put something together that was pretty good. I think the service was awesome - Colin, thank you sir!

The decor is a little less than modern but I'd definitely go back for the food and the service.

  • Pros: food, service
  • Cons: , price, small tables

Pleasant

by hawksbill

While we were not blown away by Mirabelle, we left with an overall positive impression. Crabcake and shrimp appetizers were plated with complex but complimentary flavors. Duck entree, while fattier than would have liked, was paired with a merlot-fennel sauce that was unexpected and interesting. Didn't get details on my companions' meals but got full-mouthed nodding regarding the beef tenderloin and shrimp entrees. Peanut butter torte was salty and sinful, but bittersweet chocolate tart could've been sweeter for the American palate. Restaurant didn't seem noisy until you tried to talk. And it wasn't full on a recent Saturday night, but UT football was playing.

  • Pros: Sauce/flavor pairings, Quick seating
  • Cons: , Some service issues

Yum.

by monafair

I didn't even notice much about the restaurant last night (my first visit); I was too focused on the flavors on my palate. The venison was amazing, as was everything that came with it, and the pinot noir (Morgan, 2000) was great. They don't seem to inflate prices much over market on the wine, which is pretty unusual. The service was decent, and the crowd seemed happy to linger, which is always a good sign. I'll be going back for more great food and wine pairings.
