I Miss Tangerines
by Luvmetru29
I have enjoyed partying at Tangerines for about 3 years now. I am very sad to say that it is no longer open for business. This is the only place that my sister and I could go and have a good time and still be close to home (not to mention feeling secure). The crowd did grow enormously over that period of time and I believe some people became unhappy about this. Tangerines please consider re-opening and giving me back my sanity! lol
The neatiest partying club in town

I have been a regular to Tangerines for over 12 years. It has gotten diverse over the years. My husband and I think the music is fantastic. We recommend that you take any friend or family member that is looking for a place to have fun and feel secure.
We also liked all of the new fashion trends on display. I do not think you will regret partying at Tangerines. Most of the Action starts late but we are going to advise you to get comfy and things are likely to pick up and bounce after 11:00 pm. Its worth the visit.
- Pros: NO smoking and the people are friendly
Best place in the City,

About , Tangerine"s . We love the dance floor.
We know the club for about four years , we go there every Saturday, we have a great time.
It is a good atmosphere, you can relax and dance.
Is true, some times the music, is to loud, and the DJ, play some weird songs, no buddy understand.
After all what the club need, A GOOD MANAGER.
Such a shame no one there give dam about.
We know Tangerine"s club is under Renaissance Hotel management, but look like they don"t care, to improve the quality, it is about community.
Now because no one cares, they want to close the place, we don"t know if is true or just a roomers.?
It is very sad to see this happens, many people like us , are going to miss this place.
WE HOPE THEY WILL KEEP THE CLUB OPEN....

Great Saturday Night Out!!!

This is my first time posting here, and my first night out in the Austin night club scene. I am originally from California. After reading the prior two postings and would probably would have never gone to Tangerines, if I wasn't invited to go by a friend. I guess it is all about what you are looking for in a night club or after hour bar. We arrived early to find the bar near empty with only one couple dancing. As the night continued the bar became more and more crowded with a very diverse group of people. Although the music wasn?t quite what I am used to, it was good music to dance to. There is plenty of seating and the dance floor is a good size. I would most definitely go again. And I would most definitely bring my Cali girls there to dance the night away.
An oversized hotel disco with good cocktails and a down-to-earth atmosphere

In Short
Like other 1980s icons that retain their appeal, Tangerines--an upscale, not to mention large-scale, disco within the Renaissance Hotel--cranks out recently nostalgic tunes, such as Cameo or Flock of Seagulls, for a diverse clientele of white-collar hotel guests (think footloose trade-show attendees), locals and dance fans. But the bulk of the crowd are 30-something couples or co-workers looking for a relaxing time after work.
Completely Downhill

This once great club seems to have gone completely downhill as the once trendy and classy upscale bar with its great mix of modern and older music has become a run down 80s club. Where once you could go without have to worry about getting up to go to the bar due to a great and attentive waitstaff, now there are no waiters/waitresses and the bar becomes extremely crowded and very hard to get a drink. The music is now horrific and the once classy and fun diverse crowd has severely diminished. Such a shame that such a great hotel has let the club associated with it go to waste.
- Pros: Bartenders are hospitable
- Cons: Music, Bar is crowded, no waitstaff
Bye Bye Happy Hour
by austingirl05
Feb. 2006. My friends and I decided to check out Tangerines after reading the write-up about about the fabulous happy hour specials. We visited the bar on a Friday after work and were dismayed to find a dark, musty, outdated bar. The venue was completely empty (besides a couple at bar who also came because of the citysearch review) and was not offering any specials. The manager apologized for the confusion and informed us that they stopped the free food buffet six months ago! There is really no reason to venture to this bar, even if you are a guest at the hotel.
- Pros: none
- Cons: lonely, dark, musty
Saturday night Live

I was on business and visiting my daughters in Austin on 6 NOV 05 It is a nice lounge atmostphere I arrived around 8 pm and some swing dancers where really showing what they could do. The DJ was doing a great job of providing dance musicd to about 10 couples till around 9:30pm. than all of a sudden he CRANKED up the volume and started playing disco lounge music at deafening volume. The dancers finished their drinks and left. GREAT PLace to Dance but not IF you want to lose your hearing. FYI to all.. I have partial hearing loss in both ears and don
't wear any hearing aids.
- Pros: Good atmosphere, good dance floor, nice folks
- Cons: drinks are high, music to loud, slow service
Lots of Fun

Best place to bring a group of friends after work. We had a great time dancing and eating during happy hour and beyond. They had the best DJ music for the over 30 crowd to present day. We loved it so much, we are doing it again this Friday!
Classy

Some of my co-workers and I got together at this place. I'm glad with did. Not only is this place less of a meat market, but the atmosphere is relaxing, the drinks specials are priced just right, and the age group is more mature than most downtown establishments. We'll definitely be back.
- Pros: Inexpensive, Relaxing, Mature Crowd
