Nice but its not all its cracked up to be...

It is a nice place, but i personally thought it was dirty and very stinky. Its very crowded on weekends. Not what i was expecting. maybe it was the day i went on (sunday afternoon)?
- Pros: nice shady trees to lay out on
- Cons: stinky and dirty when theres a lot of people at the pool
Best place for cooling off in the summer heat
by bchristian
Most of the water areas in Austin are quite warm in the summer due to the weather heating up the water. But Barton Springs is one place you can rely on being refreshed and able to hop in water that will actually cool you off. Great for kids, families of all kinds. I know someone that swears by the healing powers of the water here as well. Large enough area that even during busy days its not overcrowded. A great day outing.
- Pros: One of the only places with cool waters
- Cons: Parking is not so great
A natural, chemical-free swimming pool for the whole family.

In Short
The pool is located in the area around Barton Springs in Zilker Park, the expansive green space in the heart of the city. Out of the water, there's plenty of room for children to roam. After a refreshing dip, sunbathers and picnickers stretch out on the long, grassy hill, big enough for a large number of bronzed locals. Lifeguards keep watch during the summer, and a playground and concession stand are outside the fence.

Barton Springs is my favorite thing about Austin. It is the best oasis in the middle of a hot texas summer. I reccommend!
- Pros: gorgeous, relaxing, cold!
- Cons: cold!, crowded
Swim with salamanders

I like the grassy area where folks catch a tan. When you get too hot, jump in the chilly water (I bet you jump right back out). The cool thing about this pool, is in the winter, when the air temperature is under 68 degrees, swimmers still swim in the water (it's warmer!). The weekends get crowded with teens and kids, but it's still a lot of fun.

Barton Springs pool is one of the most convenient places to cool off. Just south of downtown, this natural swimming pool is an excellent place to beat those Texas summers. The water maintains a chilly 68-degrees and there's a nice grassy hill to lie on and watch everyone else have fun.
