Best Cookies!
by RFrancese at Citysearch
I just ate lunch at Portabla with a few coworkers and it was amazing. I've lived in Austin since I was little and today was my first time in to eat. The soup was pork and lamb and it was delicious. The cookies were to die for...I had cookie with marshmallows in it and I wanted another. I will definitely be back.
So Impressed!

This food is delicious! I work downtown and my office was having a training so we ordered Take-out from Portabla. We all ordered these Panini sandwiches and they were YUM! They had basil pesto and provolone cheese...my favorites!! The homemade cookies were delicious! Plus, the service was GREAT! Let me tell you what happened: They forgot one of the sandwiches and I was picking everything up. I should have checked. I felt so bad, but since we were in training I couldn't get back in my car to get it. So I called to let them know and the CHEF/OWNER agreed to bring it to our office HIMSELF. Now that's service! Who does that anymore? I know he's a new owner for this restaurant and I guess he's aiming to impress! Mission accomplished! I can't wait to go and try it for dinner!
- Pros: Delicious Gourmet Food, Excellent Service
- Cons: I wish they delivered lunch to downtown!

The honest truth, use another caterer!

"You get what you pay for", isn't that the truth! We recently used Portabla for a party and had a less than satisfactory experience. From the staff showing up late, to missing items, inadequate portions, and serving cold food, I would recommend taking your business somewhere else. Maybe, to Portabla, the small changes/mistakes they made for my engagement party seemed minimal, but to my family, my fiance and I, and our guests, they did not go unnoticed. You would think that a professional business would have enough consideration to call after deciding to change their arrival time from 1pm to 1:45 pm, or would know that a small box of crackers is not enough for 30 people and a large cheese platter. Or that, blaming the fact that the food was served cold on the weather being 60 degrees that day, is utterly ridiculous (and this would not have been an issue if they brought the chafing dishes they said they were going to bring). The empanadas were missing the dip they were served with...and so on and so forth. Most likely, I would not even be writing this if the owner of the business seemed sympathetic and apologetic to our experience, but after taking most of the blame for having an outdoor event (which was the plan from the start), being told that we got what we paid for, "maybe if you had us plan your whole event and paid more money...", etc...I want to express my dissatisfaction with our choice in Portabla. The last thing I said to the owner of Portabla during our heated discussion of the event is that I would be honest with my experience, and I have, I would never use them again, and do not recommend them for any important event.

I went here on accident the first time, meaning to go to cafe josie, I have never made it to cafe josie but i have gone back to portabla's for the excellent food and friendly staff many times. I highly recommend the portabella pannini, delicious! Don't forgot to grab a box of homemade granola before you leave, its the good stuff!
- Pros: Great food, great service
- Cons: parking can be tricky especially at lunch
Gourmet baked goods, sandwiches and pizzas for those on the go.

In Short
Compact yet open, Portabla features a bakery case, a coffee bar and a small seating area. Modern gray chairs accompany round black tables, set off by vases of tall flowers. Most patrons seem to prefer takeout, so you'll have no trouble snagging a table right around dinnertime. Fresh breads, imaginative salads and a daily entree are the makings of a hearty, easy meal. Specialty pizzas include the rectangular Leonardo with spinach, garlic, provolone and leeks.

Food too good

Food this good will not be good for my waistline. The quiche? Incredible. Chicken salad? Better than homemade. Meatballs? Just add a fork. Save the cooking for another day, and just pick up food from here. Enjoy.
