Americanized Chinese Food
by pinoyvlf
I have been here a few times and I have been here and I think this restaurant has improved a bit over the last few years. The restaurant is nice and decorated like you think any Chinese restaurant should look like. The menu mainly consists of Americanized-Chinese food, and it pretty good here compared to some other places I have been to. I do recommend trying something different like the clay pots for something to keep you warm in the cold winter nights. Nights? Yup another cool think about this place is that it is open till 2AM everyday. So if you are in the mood for Kung Pao chicken or Sesame Chicken, then come by and check this place out.
- Pros: Good food for its kind... and it's open till 2am!
- Cons: Nothing on the menu to separate it from most Chinese restaurants
If you don't mind Rattus norvegicus and Blattaria or enjoy funding a pace that violates tax and labor laws.

Ok Ok you want the truth? I'll tell you the truth.
I've been working at wanfu for about 2 months now so I've seen whats really going on
first, the remodeling, that was actually cause the health dept closed them down to take care of their rodent problem. well, the things are still there, their corpses fill the space in the walls (I was asked to remove them for $$) and the ones that are alive scratch around in the ceiling and walls
Blattaria (look it up)? they crawl in the egg rolls and soups, which sit out in the open for over 5 hours,
as well as their prefried chicken
they crawl over everything imaginable
they use windex / vinager to clean the tables (I tried to buy them de greaser and sanitizer, but they decided to use ALL of it on the floor along with bleach and ammonia
some understand this to form chlorine gas and can burn the mucus linings in your lungs/ nose, but they don't seem to care
health dpt threatened to close again because of the infestation, but they tried to fix it
then the health dpt did close / fine wanfu 1000$ for a grease trap underground overflow that resulted in filling neighboring parking lots with degrading food and grease and stink.
now a new manager has come in a tried to clean up the messes the woman running the place has created but instead he rather commit crimes such as sexual harassment (the girls where finally fired ... no explanation) physical abuse, and tip withholding
not to mention, I've never filled a w2 with them, but they still take taxes from me.
these are not opinions they are facts. I've seen it with my own 2 eyes and have taken direct action to address these issues with no results from the current woman owner and new manager
from ratts to roches to work ethic violations, health violations, safety violations, tax violations and others, its now up to you
don't forget to look for the red body fluid and feces in certain areas. just keep your eyes open and your mouth closed in this place
not so good. MSG filled food with not so good tasting dishes.
by loveisblind1
I can sure taste the MSG that was filling my meal. It was late at night, and there was nothing else opened so I decided to come by here. The food does out come out pretty fast(probably premade). Well, obviously the food isn't traditional but the Mongolian beef is passable. The plain fried rice is not good so opt for steamed rice instead. THe Schezuan beef was not so Schezuan like. lol but its somewhat passable as a average filling meal. a lot of the dishes are filling but average Chinese food that you'd find in anywhere. Some of the dishes were way under average in my opinion. IF you want to be full, have fast service, and are hungry late at night, this may be the place for you. BUt if those conditions do not apply, I don't recommend coming here.
- Pros: nice looking inside, fast service, open late, filling
- Cons: MSG, not so good food
Don' Eat here!!
by brucebruce11
As usual, Wanfu was one of my favorite places to eat at night. I had being going there for a while, despite the rumors that people said about that certain place. Some friends had talked about a rodent problem there, but I just ignored it, since the food was REAL good. Well, it happened that to my amazement, that we went wanfu one of those nights. We got there, starving at night and I ordered my usual. I was with one of my friends, and he ordered a tea. The HOST, not the WAITER brought the tea, and my friend ordered some lemons on the side. He came back, and brought them in his filthy, sordid HAND!!! I COULD NOT believe my eyes. He looked like he was on something, i dont know, but that was really nasty. We decided to stay, hoping he would not bring our food out. The waiter brought it out, so we felt ok. After eating half of my combination fried rice, i found a PIECE OF A RUBBERBAND in there. It was BLUE, AND IT LOOK PRETTY DIRTY. That had been enough for that night, and we left the place. The lady still charged us half. The point is, its not really the lady's fault, I know she is trying to run a nice business, but the people that work there are dirty. They need to get their stuff together and be professional about it. From that day, I decided not to eat there anymore, despite the delicious food they have their. I just would not recommend the place. There is another nice place called HAI KY. That is a very sanitary place and it is real good too. Very cheap too.
Suspicious!

Yeah, I don't know if I can trust them again either. Espeically since I didn't know they were closed and called in to order food. The lady on the phone said they were closed to make upgrades and make the place nicer and didn't share any rodent information with me. I found out later that the place had been closed due to health issues. I really did like the place but now I just don't know anymore if I can trust them to clean up their own mess on their own.
I don't know anymore

Considering this place was shut down for a month to get rid of a rodent problem I do not know whether to trust it again or not. Before they closed down I always thought they were very good and very affordable. Now though I do not know if I can ever trust them again since they had a rodent problem.

Do not go eat at this resteraunt. A group of friends and I went there last night (6/5/07) and before we had even given our food order, we saw a rodent fall through the ceiling tile. Yes, that's right, it fell right through the ceiling! Thank god no one was seated at the table where the rodent fell. Anyways, we ran out of there quickly. Already made a report to the health inspector.
wanfu more like wrong-ful

This is not the best Asian food in Austin. I would best describe this place as dirty, outdated, and cheap looking. The decoration has no authenticy and looks like it comes straight from a flea market. Maybe they should try dusting their statues and fake plants so that when customers first walk in they are not taken back by the obvious filth.
I looked around at the restaurant and knew better not to order a whole meal of my own. The dirty carpet and tables told me the story of possible illness, and I cannot afford to get sick off of cheap restaurants who cut corners in the kitchen food and sanitation wise. I orderd a soda only and watched my friends eat. The smell of the food got to my hungry stomach, and I stole a piece of chicken off someone's plate.
I hate to admit it but it actually tasted good. I was just not about to think about the microscopic creatures that could attack my intestines if I ate the food in large quantities. Even though whatever my friend had ordered tasted decent, I have never been brave enough to venture back there.
Maybe it was an omen that one of the lights on the sign was out..and is still out whenever I drive past it on Oltorf.
- Cons: dirty and waitstaff wasnt as nice as possible
cheap, but dirty and unhealthy
by thesilentpanda
After reading the reviews that said that Wanfu had great, cheap chinese food, I had somewhat high expectations...I ordered take-out and when I went to go pick it up, I saw something skitter across the floor! There was another customer waiting for his order, and we both saw a rodent run under the table! I kind of freaked, and when I told the hostess, she said something that they had set up some traps and seemed completely nonplussed by the fact that there were rodents running around the restaurant. I had read a review saying that there were things crawling on the walls, but I had just ignored it...probably should have listened...if you like MSG laden, rodent food - then this is the place for you
- Pros: cheap
- Cons: msg heavy, rodents, bad customer service

I went here for lunch after hearing about it from some co-workers. The food was horrible and so was the service. They were not very accomodating and the rice was dry and flavorless. I have not been back and would recommedn that nobody else goes either.
