In Short
Named for a UT teacher and director, this 500-seat theater is now used for theater and dance student productions. Performances have included New Works Festival pieces plus "The Crucible" and UT's Dance Repertory Theatre, and interdisciplinary performance group Sharir+Bustamante Danceworks occupies the large theater space regularly. Payne Theatre also has hosted Houston's Alley Theatre, the National Theatre of the Deaf and the 1999 world premiere of Tennessee Williams' "Spring Storm."
