Just called today to order lunch for the workplace.

3-13- 2009

They wanted to charge 2-3 dollars more than the menu prices for each meal and would not provide chips for the guacamole salad unless they were purchased with salsa for 3.99 more.

They have good food but they have turned me away by advertising a price and while your not lokking add up the bill.

We canceled our order and ate elsewhere

  • Pros: authentic
  • Cons: por service and high price

We were charged regular price on our drinks and appetizers during happy hour. The website has different information on the daily happy hour specials but once your there and you get your bill they stiff you. I talked to the manager and they still didn't want to give us the discount how it's listed on their menu. I asked the waiter from the very beginning before we ordered so we wouldn't have any issues and when we got our bill the waiter changed everything he had told us, even though several of us heard him. The manager was not helpful at all we tried to talk to her about it and of course she didn't listen either. The happy hour drinks say $3.75 and your bill tells you $4.75 then where is the darn discount. The manager didn't even give us the discount for our appetizers like it mentions on the menu as well. Always check your bill and make sure it's correct not that you will have any luck with money hungry people. I know times are hard but when you stiff your customers for the lack of business then that is not good business practices. I also noticed the prices on their menus went up. We were over charged by $23.00 dollars so I give this restaurant a thumbs down.

  • Pros: none
  • Cons: Too expensive and they over charge you

I have been going to Azul Tequila for a couple years ... once every couple of months or so. I've always had good experiences. Good food, good staff, great drinks!

Unfortunately Friday I had a terrible experiance. In short:

- Knats everywhere inside

- Slowest service I've ever had, and we were 1 of 3 tables seated in the restaurant

- We ordered plates we've had before and loved, but they were inedible on Friday

- When we complained the waitress shrugged and said, "Most people like it"

- We asked for a manager and never got one

- We asked for a check twice and never got it

- Finally we put the cash on the table (tip included!) and got up to leave. A waitress chased us to the front door and blocked us from leaving because she assumed we hadn't paid

- I emailed the restaurant when I got back to work and have had no response

- It's been 3 days since and not the waitress, not the other employees, not whoever checks their email ... no one has even so much as apologized. Unfortunately, we spent $45 that day and left hungry. I had to get a snack from the vending machines at work.

Like I said .... normally I am very happy and enjoy that restaurant, but I'm very unhappy with my last experiance and their (lack of) response or apology.

  • Pros: Great drinks! Usually a good restaurant...
  • Cons: .... but when it's bad, it's bad.

My partner and I have been going to Azul Tequila for a couple of years now because we love their Mariachi. The food is not bad but their drinks are good. If you are a light weight be careful because they are strong. The best thing on their menu is probably the Caldo de Pollo but my partner likes their nachos and the fajitas.

  • Pros: Good music Thurs and Fri

In Short
A bar at the back beckons patrons with a formidable margarita menu. Dining tables are scattered about in a room splashed with green and orange walls, set off by a blue and yellow ceiling, giving the space a warm, sun-baked feel. Quesadillas de masa are stuffed with shredded beef and topped with sliced radishes and cool sour cream. Cochinita pibil are marinated in a musky achiote sauce and served on a banana leaf.

This is a great little place to go for lunch. I've been for dinner a few times, but I feel the value and menu for lunch were more my taste. The lunch menu is very reasonable. I recommend the tortilla soup with chicken enchiladas. The salsa and queso are also very good, not too spicy, but not like stewed tomatoes either. I've read some of the other reviews and am shocked that someone would get that detailed about their inner workings and that they really felt the food to be the cause... I, nor anyone I've brought to this place have ever felt anything but full and happy when we dined here. Although it's in a strip mall, it does have a little patio out front. It's a nice place to grab lunch when you are in the area shopping and the staff is quite friendly.

  • Pros: great menu
  • Cons: in a strip mall, but easy to park!

I won't tell a lie, the food was delicious. At the end of the meal, my boyfriend, mom and I could not stop ranting about how authentic and delicious the food was, and about the promptness of the service. However, we did not realize truly how authentically Mexican the food was until the next day...when we all came down with a nasty case of runny poops. But it didn't stop just there, a week later and still every thirty minutes I have to sprint to the bathroom before I shart all over myself. I thought the earlier post of "explosive ...." was a joke, but take heed, it is not as funny when it is happening to you. Eat Azul Tequila and expect a week of runny, painful poops.

*I wanted write d-i-a-r-r-h-e-a but citysearch wouldn't let me, deeming it an "inappropriate word". Seems like a pretty important word for a website that reviews restaurants to me.

  • Pros: before the next day everything was great
  • Cons: the week of irritable bowels that followed

I've been here at least ten times, and I think it's one of Austin's best Mexican restaurants. I've only had to wait for a table once, and that wasn't very long. The food is really good, especially the fish, the conchinita pibil, the mole and pipian sauce, and the "cowboy relleno," a chili poblano stuffed with shrimp and topped with chipotle sauce. The service is impeccable, the drinks great, and the food some of the tastiest in town. I love this place!

  • Pros: Food, drinks, service
  • Cons: It's in a strip mall and isn't the most beautiful restaurant or ambience in town.

Being new SW Austinites, we were looking for a good Mexican restaurant close to home. Other restaurants had disappointed these picky diners, but Azul Tequila. Our Thursday evening visit found the restuarant full but with no wait time for a table. We were promptly served a bowl of chips and salsa with just the right amount of heat to it. Based on recommendations we had read online, we ordered the "Chile Relleno en crema" and chicken fajitas. Neither one of us could stop saying "MMMMmmmm". The Relleno en crema was bursting with flavor in every bite. The fajitas were tender, flavorful, and came with the traditional complement of sides. The surprise of our visit was the WONDERFUL Mariachi Band that serendaded diners. We can't wait to go back and sample more of their menu and hear some more mariachi music. Highly recommended!

  • Pros: Flavorful Food, Attentive Waitstaff, Mariachi Music
  • Cons: None
