Hands down the best Greek Food in Austin!

by peppermint81 at Citysearch

I have been to Zorba so many times, both for lunch and dinner and the food is always great!...delicious, hot simply too good.....HOWEVER there is only one thing abt this place...for dinner the entree prices here at almost 15$....n the ambience is seriously not for a 15$ dish...If they are charging 15$ entree I would have expected decor etc....so for a dinner for 2...be prepared to shell 35$.

  • Pros: Great Food
  • Cons: Poor Ambience, too pricey for dinner considering the way the place looks

Horrible atmosphere, ok food

by ncgirl73 at Citysearch

Just moved here and thought we'd check this place out since we love gyros. Waitress took forever to take our order, high chair for our daughter was filthy. The atmosphere is awful as well. Will keep searching for a decent Greek restaurant. This is not worth it, as it is also not cheap at all.

  • Pros: Good portion, ok food
  • Cons: Not so clean, poor service

The WORST SERVICE, The FILTHIEST FLOOR

by BoxTracker at Citysearch

Where is the health inspector and management?

Just stopped in on Sunday, 7/19. My wife had picked up hummus and pita before for a snack for us and we enjoyed it, so today, as I was out alone shopping I thought I'd stop in for a quick bite.

I walked in to see that it was table service, but there was a cafeteria style line at the back with a cash register. So I proceeded to walk back to the cash register to order a gyro to go. A young woman stopped me about halfway back and asked if I wanted to eat in or get it to go. I told her I would like to just order something to go so she tells me to sit down.

I thought that was odd, why can't I just go to the back and order something at the cash register? So I comply, and she brings me a menu. After I see that there is a gyro on the menu, and that's all i would like, I look over and she is just hanging out at the cash register. A few other employees are just lounging around in the kitchen. Wanting to follow "Official Zorba Protocol", I just sit and wait for her to take my order. She never comes over so I walk up to the cash register and I ask her if I can place my order at the cash register and pay there. She looks at me like I just interrupted her wedding and says "WHAT do you want?" I've never been treated like that in a restaurant before, so I just silently turned around and walked out.

FYI, I'm not a hard to please person, I've never EVER walked out of a restaurant before. I just moved to Round Rock and will probably live here a long time, Zorba's could have had my business for years as well as my out of town guests. I will NEVER set foot in Zorba's again.

BTW, the place was absolutely FILTHY.

If I want Greek on a weekend, I will make the 20 mile trek to downtown to eat at Athenian Grill, they had wonderful service and the owner is usually working the line and is always helpful.

  • Pros: None
  • Cons: Service, Dirt and grime

Great food, not the best atmosphere

by Calexica at Citysearch

Excellent greek food with large portions. The service is generally very quick, but if they get a rush of customers their wait staff tends to be on the thin side. For some reason I always notice that the pita bread is always really HOT. The pastichio is amazing...I just wish they would change up their menu a little bit. They have some entrees listed that I just would never order.

I took off a star because it isn't a good date place. The decor is pretty tacky and the tables/chairs are worn down. I can look past that, but it isn't a place to take someone you may want to impress.

  • Pros: Best greek I've ever had
  • Cons: Cheap decor, sun glare can be an issue

Popular with locals and the lunch hour crowd for fresh Mediterranean classics.

by Contributor at Citysearch

In the Home Depot shopping center, this casual Greek café adds a little ethnic flair of the non Tex-Mex variety to Round Rock. The menu features authentic flavors including a sampler appetizer platter with stuffed grape leaves (dolmas), spinach and phyllo pie (spanakopita), hummus and pita bread. The grilled meats are standouts, including the gyro plate sided by rice pilaf, creamy tzatziki sauce and fresh pita, chicken plate with spinach, and falafel plate with vegetarian-friendly sides. There's no lamb on the standard menu, but a slow-cooked beef stew provides for a break from sandwich platters. Finish with honey-soaked baklava.

High Marks
"Their dolmas, tzatziki sauce, hummus and gyros are wonderful and they are consistently delicious!" (PBW, Citysearch user)

"Don't forget to bring a bottle of wine with you; Zoba's doesn't have a liquor license, but will be happy to provide wine glasses." (lonestarhikchik, Citysearch user)

"Aromatic and flavorful, each dish has it's own personality as well as a very inexpensive price (the median price for entrees are @$8)" (prentice, Citysearch user)

Low Marks
"
The food was great everytime. But the thing that will keep me from going back is what happens consistently: poor service (not enough wait staff) and poor locale." (texasnurse, Citysearch user)

"Some new waitresses...were actually condescending when explaining menu items and "traditions..." (das_ding, Citysearch user)

Great food but....

by texasnurse at Citysearch

I have tried this place on several different ocassions. The food was great everytime. But the thing that will keep me from going back is what happens consistently: poor service (not enough wait staff) and poor locale. It is located in an udesirable strip mall. It doesnt feel clean. In fact my feet stuck to the floor! Enough of a turn off that we wont return.

  • Pros: Good authentic Greek food.
  • Cons: Poor service and unclean

The food is good - not Baltimore Greektown good but good. The service is decent. It's serve yourself during lunch hour but you get waited on during evening hours.

The place closes at around 2:15 for a couple hours.

  • Pros: Food is good
  • Cons: Crowds, location is lacking

Best Greek food in Texas!!!

by austin5 at Citysearch

After moving to Austin, we looked for a good Greek restaurant.

The service at Zorbas is always outstanding. The waitstaff is so attentive and regardless of how busy they are, we never wait more than 10 mins for our delicious food. All the dishes are great, but we love the sampler and vegetarian plates! The baklava is also fantastic!

We have now become Zorbas addicts and enjoy it at least once a week. If I had my way, I would have 5 it days a week.

Hands down, the best greek food in town!!!

I am new to Greek food but after my first try, I really like Zorba. The selection of side dishes is fantastic! The gyro is tasty and addictive! I try to control myself to go there too often because the food is way too awesome.

  • Pros: Big portion, tasty, wide selection of side dishes
  • Cons: lunch crowd
