Filthiest Hotel I've ever been in. WILL NEVER GO BACK!
by ACLFestivalFan at Citysearch
DON'T STAY HERE! These rooms were being charged at a higher rate, due to the special event of Austin City Limits Music Festival. Upon arrival we were greeted nicely enough and checked into our King room with a sleeper sofa with no problems. While waiting in line, another patron was consulting with the clerk about some problem they were having with their room. Upon arriving at our room, we were greeted by the
4 people staying in the room next door, congregated around their open entrance door. Our king bed had been slept in, the covers halfway pulled up, our door to the connecting room was wide open (although our neighbor's connecting door had been shut), there was a nasty wet towel in the kitchen sink, and we didn't even look at the bathroom. Downstairs, we informed the clerk that we needed a new room that was clean. There were no more "deluxe king" rooms (nowhere NEAR "DELUXE" in my opinion) available, but they did have one Queen/Queen available. We got new keys and went back upstairs only to find an even worse situation. Both beds were totally unmade, dirty towels were in the bathroom floor, trash on the counter, chair cushions on the floor, etc. AFter discovering that the "maids" had all gone home, we then told the
clerk that we would not be staying at this hotel and proceeded to get a full refund. I have NEVER seen a more shabbily kept hotel in my entire life. This was beyond completely unacceptable. We had been informed that they did not do house-cleaning for the length of our stay, since it's an extended stay hotel, but we HAD expected it to at least be clean before we checked in! We proceeded to call the Hyatt down the street, paid $50 more for the first night and $100 more per night for the remaining three nights. After what we had just seen, this was totally fine with us. Higher rates are acceptable when the room warrants it, but you couldn't PAY ME TO STAY at the Homestead Suites at 507 S. 1st in Austin, Texas... reserved in March for this!
- Pros: the receptionist was extremely nice to us.
- Cons: rooms filthy, maid service non=existant, carpet dirty. will NEVER GO BACK!!

Great location, great room!

After reading some of the negative reviews about this location, I was a bit hesitant to follow up on our reservation- but I'm so glad that we stayed here! Our room was a great size, well designed with a king size bed and a nice kitchenette- it was spotless, (no bugs!) seemed to be newly rehabbed with cutlery, pots, pans, towels and soap provided though we had to bring our own dish soap, shampoo etc. We were able to walk to many restaurants and the river park and to 6th street as well as SoCo. We will definitely stay here again!
- Pros: great location, large, comfy room, parking included
- Cons: few in room products, no everyday cleaning, no balconies
