Rum selection to die for!

by ladylonghorn08

The rum selection deserves 5 stars. The negative one star is for them being out of the rum I wanted. Another negative star is that the place wasn't very comfortable due to the fact I was in jeans...that place isn't for casually dressed folk. Another negative star is for the fact my boyfriend sat uneasily the whole time and grumpy because he felt like he didn't belong there also due to us being casually dressed. The regular mojitos are yummy, but the raspberry mango? mojito tasted like cough syrup. The bartender friendliness was average. He did his job, and found no other reason for interaction. The soap dispensers are cool enough to give it back one star. Even though the rum selection is amazing, like nowhere else in town. I'd personally prefer to kick back and relax with a cap morgan mojito at Trudy's, rather than doll up for an hour to go to a bar.

  • Pros: One Barrel rum when they have it
  • Cons: Too ritzy to the point of uncomfortableness

Eh..bartenders should stop drinking on the job and focus on customers.

by veeh

I liked this place for awhile with the $35 pitcher of mojitos, until a bartender tried to double charge me for someone else's drinks.

I saw her take shots with other customers at the bar so maybe she had been buzzed or something. My friend ordered a round of drinks and paid for it with cash. Then I ordered a round right after him, gave her my credit card and told her to close it right away (I never leave open bar tabs on credit cards..), and got the charge back with all the drinks he just ordered AND mine! I told her that he had just paid with cash and she said he didn't, and then she tried to say that some other people that said they wre part of my party put the drinks on my tab, which DIDN'T MAKE SENSE because I had JUST handed her my card right after I ordered..

So then we had to get the manager out, explained to him the entire story, and he had to 'review' this on tape only to find that the CUSTOMER was right.

RUDE!!!!!!!!!! I really try to avoid this place now.

  • Pros: mojitos are good

Alright for drinks

by dlsomers

We wen to Cuba Libre on a recommendation from a friend that the drinks were outstanding. I personally found the drinks to be mediocre. They put way too much lime and mint in everything, from the mojitos, rum and cokes, even bourbon drinks!! The lime and mint are all you can really taste. They service was not that great, my girlfriend has to send her drink back several times because it was not what she ordered. The drink prices were pretty steep.

The decor is fairly nice, but the loud music can make it hard to converse. After about 11, the crowd demographics started to change, and the place started to fill up with girls who were a bit too tan, and guys who had one too many button undone on their shirts.

Go for drinks - take your appetite elsewhere

by jdjordan

I took some family members to this restaurant after learning that there would be live music through the restaurant's web site. After sitting down we learned that there would be no live music. We stuck around to have dinner. The entrees and appetizers were a little less than mediocre - the plantain appetizer was fairly bland. The black beans tasted mildly fishy and the quality of the food served did not correlate to the portions (low quality and small portions). I also had to send back my mojito as it tasted like sugar water - a major mistake for a restaurant purporting to be "Cuban".

Needless to say I was a bit embarassed at having taken my out of town guests to such a lackluster dining experience. The highlight of the evening was going home for dessert. I would not recommend ordering entrees. Seems like a tapas and drinks only type of place. Great selection of rums. Hopefully they have more experienced bartenders for busier nights.

  • Pros: selection of rums, ambience
  • Cons: entree quality and selection

Best drinks and food!!

by gh68

I've been to Cuba Libre a few times for dinner/drinks and separate times for drinks only -- they have never let me down yet! Their food is great, their service wonderful, and I absolutely LOVE their drinks! From the Cubajito to the Jackie O to the Key Lime Pie -- they're great! They tend to get a little crowded on Saturday nights but that should say something all on its own ...

  • Pros: Great food, drinks, and service - plus you can have a conversation over the music!
  • Cons: Sometimes a little crowded

Great place for a Girls Night Out

by laura8i8

I love this place! It's a great place to go if you like to sit and have a few good drinks (I love the mojitos). I've never had a bad experience and have always been waited on quickly!

  • Pros: Service and Drinks
  • Cons: Can be crowded at times

Not what I expected

by ashleythepink

I expected it to be the same Cuba Libre as in Philly, but it wasn't. It wasn't awful though - more of a bar than a resturant. The menu is tiny, but the drinks are good!

  • Pros: Very intimate...if you like that sort of thing.

Love It! Come have a civilized night downtown!

by katzien9

Me and the grown-up girls finally got a "night out" planned and came for Martinis & Manicures--what fun! They certainly know how to treat a lady, and the cocktails were great. Trust me, this place is a class act, from the good bar service (hotties too) to the personal table visit from the manager. We ahd an awesome time. I'm so glad to find a nice place to go have fun that's not a college-shot bar or music-too-loud-to-talk bar. We also split some appetizers, and I recommend the crab cakes and coconut shrimp. The music was fun, we danced a bit in the back which was really cool. The best part was the people, they were a fun crowd, dressed to impress and it was easy to meet and talk to people. Cool scene. Can't wait to come back!! A++

  • Pros: Luxurious Atmosphere, Comfortable, Location
  • Cons: Can get crowded-Come Early

Avoid Party Planning

by collegegirl06

Recently planned a party there (or at least tried to). Didn't know that the corporate office did the party planning, not the bar. There was a huge lack of communication between the office and the bar and my reservations were completely messed up. I reserved the patio, instead they put my party in a corner booth (and have you ever tried to fit 10 people into a booth? It's not pretty.), and I was told by the manager that night that they "dropped the ball" because they weren't told that the patio was supposed to be reserved. After the fact, the manager of the bar said that I wasn't given the patio area because I didn't have a minimun of 16 people (even though the party package on the website says that there is a maximun of 16 people allowed on the patio and I told my party planner that my party would be less than 16). My party went somewhere else that night that could accomodate our group. I DO NOT suggest planning any gathering here.

  • Cons: Party Planning, Customer Service
