BIG . Good Price. VERY DIRTY. LOTS OF PEOPLE
by JustinJenna at Citysearch
This could be a great gym. I joined a month ago. IT is so crowded from 6-10pm Monday - Thursday you can't find parking places, and there are waits on every machine. Look close at pool area and sauna which are both very dirty. I am guessing that 80% of the members do not wipe down machines. In the evening it is mostly college students who treat the gym like a frat house. You can't beat the price and location but if you have any ability to pay more don't go here. I have never seen employees cleaning. It is a gym but more could be done. They cut a lot of corners and you get what you pay for. Negotiate for the best price. Sales people will type in codes and get you a lower rate if you are undecided.
- Pros: IF you can go in the morning you will be able to get on the machines and weights.
- Cons: Very dirty! Too many people to work out from 6-10pm. Lots of college students who do not clean off machines.
Laughably Bad Customer Service
by timbo7 at Citysearch
Terrible customer service club-wide (from the club manager to the low-paid front desk staff).
This lack of customer focus ultimately negates any club benefits (which are questionable to begin with).
- Pros: Cheap
- Cons: Service, cleanliness, level of
I had a great experience

The only reason I dont rate it a 5 is because nothing is perfect. I joined 2 weeks ago and was very surprised with the customer service. When I first walked in the young lady was very helpful and directed me to a sales representative. The young man gave me a tour and answered my questions. He went through all of the offers and since I was ready to commit to losing weight I wasted no time so I joined. This was my second time joining a gym and I had a previous experience at golds gym and the cancellation process was a nightmare. They kept blaming their outsourcing billing department for billing me after I cancelled. I walked into 24 hourfitness this week with a friend who was going with me and needed to cancel since she's moving to Lubbock. They were just as friendly and cancelled her right away and gave her a piece of paper that stated her last day of access. I was very impressed. Give them a try, the only thing I would change is I wish the payments were made at the register rather than directly by bank but I understand that there are too many members to be able to operate this. I would also adjust the TVs to different channels because some were the same.
- Pros: alot of equipment, diversity in classes , I love the vapor steam room
- Cons: I wish they opened one towards mopac
I love my gym since day one

I joined the Red River 24 Hour Fitness months after it opened. I have seen members come and go, due to the easy no contract memberships. In my opinion, the people that get on here and complain are people that do make excuses for working out period. It is a gym and gyms will be sweaty and sometimes smell like sweat. I work with a Trainer by the name of Tami and she has changed my life. There is plenty of parking since they have the front side, the entire huge parking lot in the back of the building and for a few steps to the side, there is the parking in front of the Deli. People make excuses for their results and efforts and blame the staff and most imporant Corporations. I have never witness rude staff and have always had people help me if I had questions. For the price, I am happy with coming to the gym twice a day because that is all I can do for now. I disagree with the postings made here and I am willing to bet that none of the people that posted are even working out consistently. They will write the same reviews where ever they go. Give this gym a try, they always let people in for free on their passes and I dont know of many clubs that even do that. How about focusing on your workout, instead of the parking ? In my humble opinion. I am 51 years old and have lost 25 lbs and am very happy. Ask for Tami !
- Pros: the staff, the price, the things they offer in the gym
- Cons: I wish they would shut down the basketball court
24-Hour Fitness on 41st Street

I recently joined this club & had great service when I signed up. The new manager, Jay, personally greeted me at the door & took me through the short sign-up process & I was working out within 30 minutes. He also helped me find the best rate possible & explained every detail in a professional & friendly way. I used the stationery bike, one of the nautilus machines, & various weight machines & everything seemed clean. I did notice the towels to wipe down the machines had run out which is a common happening in most gyms I've been a member of. In all, I would rate this facility a 4 out of 5 stars & encourage anyone who has not been there lately to give it another try. I believe you may find a new & improved facility with the hiring of the new manager, Jay.
- Pros: Professional, friendly staff. Clean equipment.
- Cons: The towels to wipe down machines were out.
Sad (& very creepy) excuse for Hyde Park Gym
by marla2020hindesight at Citysearch
With property taxes sky high in this area you'd think they'd get a WAY better gym to attract Hyde Park loyalty but I don't think that's what they're after. Student's cash sounds more like it.
This place is dirty, overly crowded, has pushy salespeople, & is poorly managed. Trying to get a manager just so I could cancel my membership was near impossible. I should have known it when I went in to sign up there was a woman there who had spoken with a manager who had promised her this deal if she joined that day but she had no proof, only his name. They were SO rude to her and only said the guy she spoke to didn't work there any longer. I should've known then becuase how much was she asking for? Like $15 off. So stupid that they wouldn't give it to her.
Now for the Uber Creepy: Search online at Austinist to see how this particular 24 Hour Fitness dealt with a guy doing something inappropriate (they won't let me write it here so go look it up) at the pool while a girl was alone in their pool swimming. UGH! It speaks volumes about this place. You probably never even heard the story. Seems like they'd warn people or press charges but that's too responsible and they're not; just Nasty. They want your cash.
I don't understand how this place has 2 reviews -a 1 star & a 3 star and it ranks in at 3.5 stars? What? Wouldn't that be more like 2.5 stars? Makes no sense but we'll see what my 1 star rating does to their score. Why there isn't a better gym in this neighborhood is beyond me. This area desperately needs an alternative because there is obviously a market here. Again, just sad (and very creepy).
- Pros: They're in Hyde Park
- Cons: Nastiness in Hyde Park
Full-service gym offers weights, cardio equipment, sauna, steam room, classes and personal training, open for most hours of the day.

In Short
With classes ranging from 24 Hour Tease, a sexy strip aerobic class, to the more subdued Vinyasa flow yoga and butt-kickin' boot camp, this active sports club is packed with health conscious (and some insomniac) gym goers. Stocked with the latest cardio and weight-training equipment, this gym cranks up the pumping music, flicks on the Plasma TV sets, and lets fitness fanatics work out according to their own schedule. With affordable rates and a friendly, knowledgeable staff, personal training is another tangible get-fit option. And while the moniker is somewhat misleading, on most days the door is open for at least nineteen hours--not too shabby.
Most disgusting gym I've ever been to.

This place is absolutely disgusting. The person who reviewed before me is really nice. The whole place just smells like a sweat sock. Everything is filthy! The pool has black mold growing around the outside of the entire thing and I found a DISPOSABLE RAZOR in the hot tub last week!! Also, when my bathing suit was ruined by the crazy amounts of chlorine in the hot tub, the manager took forever to call me back. So, I kept calling him. Finally got him on the phone and 'he couldn't do anything about the bikini, but waived my $40 renewal fee for 2010'. (Unfortunately I paid for a 3 year membership).
The worst part is that I live 2 blocks from this place. I literally drive up to the new location on Parmer so I don't have to go here anymore.
- Pros: Location
- Cons: Everything else - Disgusting!
Over-rated dirty gym
by missfaithy at Citysearch
Yes Lance Armstrong owns this gym, so you'd think they could afford putting towels and sanitizing spray next to the equipment...think again. A major issue with this place is the lack of cleanliness- for example...the sticky stretching mats that seemed to get cleaned once a week, the greasy equipment that everyone's sweaty dirty hands have been on that likely are never wiped down...
Plus if you want to work out any time between the hours of 5 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., forget about finding a parking spot and plan on a crowd in the gym. Not a big variety of exercise classes, (if you like that sort of thing), and the sales people are a bit rude.
On the plus side, they seemed to have made an effort improving the quality of their class instructors and there are a lot of options when it comes to exercise equipment.
- Pros: Good class instructors, lots of workout equipment
- Cons: Unsanitary conditions, over crowded, lack of parking
