I have been to this bar on three different occasions, and it only gets worse. There is nothing worse than enjoying a night out and encountering rude and cocky staff. After ordering a drink, the bartender proceeded to tell me that he did not want to make my drink again and to pick something else. I thought he was joking and insisted that I did not want anything but that particular drink. After wasting time trying to get me to choose something 'more fun to make' he handed me what looked to be what I ordered. Only after I had paid and walked away did I take a sip to realize that he purposely made a completely different drink. - Poorly made at that with a repulsively undrinkable strong watermelon taste. It was awful and ridiculously priced! After a short lived night at Spill due to the cocky staff, over-priced poorly-made drinks, and the young & aggressive crowd (several outbreaks occurred that night not to mention people constantly getting rudely shoved around) I would never go back and can only hope that a new bar will take over the hole in wall soon. Too many bars like this on 6th street will ruin the tradition of fun Austin nightlife. I suppose the only constructive criticism I can offer is to employ a more polite staff and treat customers like actual guests. The cocky kids you have at the door and behind the bar forget that they are there to serve the customer. The service overall would need to improve drastically for me to ever consider returning or recommending this place to anyone I know.

The first few times I went here, I thought it was kind of a fun place to dance. My friend thinks their service is the worst out of all the downtown bars, but I haven't really noticed that myself. The last time I went there, someone had regurgitated AGAINST the front window and it was just sitting there, dripping down the window. NASTY! We high-tailed it out of there and haven't back since.
Pros: ok music sometimes
Cons: DIRTY, bad service, cheesy frat-boy crowd

I have been to this place several times and I have never seen it clean. I don't know if there is no AC or if they choose not to turn it on because it is always hot. The level of service you get depends on the employee. From my experience it was either bad or okay. The only good thing about this place is that there is no cover charge. They play a mix of music, but it's usually generic 90s tracks. I don't think I have ever had one good drink there. You can definitely taste the cheap liquor.
Pros: No cover charge
Cons: everything else

Spill was one of my favorite bars until their unprofessional staff started to run the place instead of the owners. One of the bouncers acknowledges I was a regular at the bar. He had a personal desire in on of my close friend. Since she did not reciprocate the same feeling he did not allow her entrance in the premises. There is a out number of places to go to 6th st and 4th street but as an individual it is my duty to be selective of the place to hang out at as well as the place I would allow myself to spend. We are not in an age that women become discriminated if they do not obey the standard of a male but if this kind of traditions is being held in such modern environment is a disgrace to the Austin public to portray Austin as liberal and free atmosphere when such scenarios take place. We can not encourage that type of behavior. Let's demonstrate facilities that do not demonstrate a respect for women and a liberal society may not succeed.
Pros: none
Cons: unprofessional

The staff were pretentious and unhelpful, more interested in music and their hair than with making decent drinks or managing the "crowd" (it was near-empy on a Friday...apparently with reason). Music was stale. Felt like the authentic Dallas 1990's night club experience inexplicably transported to 6th.
Pros: no crowd
Cons: staff, music, drinks

My boyfriend and I were reluctantly going into Spill with a group of friends celebrating a birthday when only he and I couldn't get past the bouncer because "we were a bit underdressed." We watched quite a few people get in and the dress code wasn't so much "no shorts or flip flops" (or anything specific) as it was "I don't like the way you look, so you aren't getting in." It wasn't my boyfriend's shorts - I think it was his hello kitty tshirt. We go into some of the finest restaurants in Austin (Uchi, Castle Hill) often dressed the way we were tonight. It's Spill's loss that we didn't go in and spend a few bucks, because we really didn't want to go in in the first place but were obliging a friend.
Cons: Music - so 5yrs ago, Snooty bouncer
