Get treated poorly, because we hate our jobs

I have taken this bar off my list of establishments I will visit because of the unfriendly staff. There is only one bartender there that seems to enjoy her job - the rest of these folks really seem to hate the public and probably shouldn't be working in the service industry. I've never seen grown men look so miserable at their jobs. The location is good, the drinks are a bit pricey, and the staff rude at best. If I'm going to be treated poorly at a bar, I'd rather do it at a discount elsewhere.

Are you kidding me? First of all, the Longbranch Inn does not even have waitresses or waitrons. Your claim of racial profiling disgusts me. Are you under the age of 40? Are you possibly with a group that is ordering amaretto sours and/or coors light?? Either way the bar has the right and the justification to card you. No matter what your color, creed, religion, political standing, or sexual preference.

Sorry you sat down at a bar that doesn't have a waitstaff. There is no table service there...only "serve yourself, walk up to the bar, serve yourself, kind of service".

And i am more sorry that you have had so many racially profiled instances in your life that you would be so premature in racially profiling the Longbranch.

Discrimination at its best! Stay away. Don't support this place.

I wouldn't recommend this bar to anyone. We wanted to try this new "hip" place in E. Austin, mostly because we thought it would be a great place to be yourself and avoid the downtown scene. Unfortunately, talk about racial profiling from the minute we walked in. The waitress was rude, carded only our group, and never came back to offer us drinks. It was obvious from the beginning that we were the only customers being treated like this. I would expect more from a place that has chosen their home base in E. Austin, but it appears that this is not the case. They are in the heart of E. Austin is a very diverse neighborhood that is slowly being rennovated.........they don't belong there. Their attitude belongs more in a time frame before desegregation, perhaps in the south somewhere!

Excellent establishment, very Viking-friendly!

Being a Viking, it can be difficult for myself and my seafaring comrades to find acceptance in the local inns of the towns we plunder. I assure you this is not the case at the LBI. There is ample longboat parking, fine mead, and they'll even check your battle-axe for you. I haven't felt this much at home since I last feasted in the hall of Ragnor. Two horns up!

• Pros: fair wenches
• Cons: ice giants

The camaraderie here is infectious and a far cry from the rowdy anonymity of nearby Sixth Street.

In Short
Long Branch Inn's small corner spot has been a neighborhood hangout for decades, largely due to its less-than-fancy atmosphere. Army green walls and dim lighting keep this long, narrow space funky and casual. Mismatched tables with wooden chairs sit opposite the enormous oak bar, rumored to date back to pre-automobile days. All demographics of drinkers are regulars here, enjoying a beer, wine or spirit, lone pool table and occasional live music act.
