Solid Breakfast Tacos

by cutiepatootie1534

This morning my office had an early morning meeting and we were served a variety of breakfast tacos from El Arroyo. Normally I don't care for bacon breakfast tacos because I find the bacon to be too chewy for my taste. That's not the case with the breakfast tacos from El Arroyo. The bacon was cooked to perfection, crisp but not too crunchy. I also had a potato, egg and cheese taco that was delicious. El Arroyo is a safe bet when you need to place an easy order for a large group. I mean, who doesn't enjoy a nice breakfast taco?

  • Pros: Breakfast Tacos, Salsa

Just right

by beecaver

Old Reliable- always the backup plan when we can't decide where to go. Margaritas are good, food is good, service is ok. But it is always consistent- I have never been totally disappointed (or really wowed). I don't expect five star service or prime steaks- it is a local Mexican restaurant, so I am content. My security blanket of a restaurant, just down the block. I have to admit that I am waiting for Iron Cactus to open, but until then I will always fall back on Old Reliable.

  • Pros: prices, margaritas

Great food! Great service!

by algrande

We made the trip from Georgetown based on the recommendation of a friend. We found the service to be very good. The waitress and other staff was remarkably friendly and attentive. We had a large group (about 15 with some small children) and they really did a good job. The food was very good and without exception everyone in the group was more than satisfied. Oh yes, the manager came out to greet us and he was exceptionally gracious, he really made us feel welcome. We would recommend giving it a try and we plan on returning soon.

  • Pros: Good atmosphere, really comfortable.
  • Cons: None

Just Plain Horrible

by mrslacker2u

I have given this restaurant 4 chances since it is within walking distance of my house. Each time was worse than the previous. The food was not good (the BBQ quesadillas were incredibly salty), the service was horrible and the manager did nothing when we complained. This is ashamed because there are few restaurants in Bee Cave and the building/patios are very nice. I will never visit this place again unless it changes ownership. Incedentally, this location is not owned/operated by Clay McPhail, who owns the other El Arroyo restaurants.

  • Pros: The building and location
  • Cons: Everything else

Won't go back again -- bad food and bad service

by mbp

It has been one week since I went to El Arroyo and I will not go back again. Bad food and bad service was not a good combination. My server could not get the order right, did not bring items we asked for, overcharged us for side items, and did not try to make anything right. We did not even get to-go boxes we asked for for some leftovers. The funny thing is is that the restaurant was not even crowded. I told the manager (Jeffrey) who apologized but by then it was too late. We had been there way too long to have to relive the experience with him. There are far too many good Mexican food restaurants in Austin to waste your time and money going here. Even though it is close I won't go back again.

  • Cons: Bad food, bad service, overpriced

Can you say "Tex-Mex"?

by johnkelcy

Not authentic, whatever.

Food is very good, service is extremely attentive and the restaurant is always clean and ready to go.

I have had the pleasure of enjoying several meals at the ditch, er El Arroyo, and I highly recommend the chicken enchaladas and the bar-b-que chicken enchiladas. On the lighter side, the tortilla soup is very good as well.

Instead of pictures of old Mexico and pinata's, the ditch is decorated with photographos of TEXAS and all things TEXAN. Wait, could it be? Yes, it IS! Tex-Mex mi amigo.

If you want authentic mexican food, head to Chope's in La Mesa, NM.

  • Pros: Parking, Inexpensive

I disagree...

by a1ways

Although I agree with the previous review that it was not authentic, the food was good, the wait stuff was polite, the food was good and priced right and it was very clean. I would go there again!

El Arroyo

by cbass08

If you're craving a mediocre and expensive taco but have no interest in Mexican culture whatsoever, El Arroyo is your place. Our waiter wore khaki shorts, a ralph polo shirt, and a cap with an American flag on it. 60s bubble gum music was playing. There is absolutely no Mexican art in the restaurant. How less authentic could it be?

  • Pros: Good parking
