I finally found a place where I can go to move, dance and get reconnected to my body without feeling like I am "exercising" or not as fit as anyone else. I LOVE the Nia classes. The teachers are so accepting of everyone, no matter if someone is comfortable moving, has danced or exercised before or not. In every class, they create a safe space and a "community" where each person can move as she is comfortable. I love the fusion of many dance forms and how the movement is made very simple to follow. I also really enjoy the many different styles of music that make me feel relaxed and invigorated at the same time. Each class starts out very slowly and affirms that I need to listen to my body and do what brings me joy and freedom. The class is nicely "scaffolded" into more opportunities to move in different ways and there are always segments of "free dance" when I can be very private or feel connected to others in the studio. There is no judgement about what anyone does and we are all made to feel supported and successful. AND it's a great exercise program; it's just that I never realize I am exercising! I love it! Finally, I can dance again like I did as a child!

NIA is one of the classes taught at JoyMoves . The setting is serene and well-designed . The teachers are friendly and savvy about fitness . Why go to a fancy spa staffed by only technicians ? Go to JoyMoves where the staff really knows what they're doing . I especially like the NIA classes taught on Monday and Friday by Elissa . NIA is barefoot dancing with a flair of adult playground . Never be afraid the ( mostly female ) attendees are anorexics or muscle-bound jock types . Every body type and every level of fitness is acceptable . You're free to be you ! Fun and fitness ... who could ask for anything more ?
Pros: Beautiful setting with well-trained staff and fun workouts such as NIA
Cons: you'll sweat ... don't wear tights or fancy clothes ... don't wear makeup , it'll just be sweated off

A wonderful place and great options to exercise. The teachers are excellent, the workshops are interesting, and the staff is friendly. The traffic in the afternoon is heavy!
Pros: Wonderfully designed facility, peacefull surroundings
Cons: Traffic in the afternoons

Joy Moves offers incredibly inspiring and dynamic Nia classes in the most beautiful, breathtaking environment. Everyone goes out of their way to make sure you feel welcomed and cared for and new students are made to feel right at home. Most students first come in new to Nia, not knowing what to expect, and leave feeling totally energized, deeply relaxed, stronger, more fit and in love with this practice. I LOVE their non-competitive philosophy and that they celebrate bodies of all shapes and sizes, that anyone can participate and benefit. Finally a place and a technique that is all about joy, that allows me to feel great about myself and my body...AND I am fitter, stronger and healthier than I've ever been. I thankfully will never walk into a gym again and won't need to because they have all you need here.
Pros: spectacular, beautiful space; excellent classes
Cons: none

The studio space at Joy Moves is so serene and beautiful with window peeks into nature, I find myself eagerly looking forward to the next time I can get there! They have great instructors who are inspiring and supportive with some wonderful options for movement exercise-- Nia, Pilates, and Yoga. I also appreciate their unlimited monthly plans--very reasonable!
Pros: Easy access and parking, great studio, excellent instructors

I recently visited JoyMoves for a Nia class prior to my spa treatments at their sister facility, Westlake Wellbeing. What fun! Shoshana, the owner, is an incredible dancer and Nia instructor. After my massage and facial - both excellent with Sharmin and Bonnie - I watched Sascha conduct a class for a high-school birthday party! What fun and what a great idea! The girls obviously loved it. If you have not been to JoyMoves and Westlake Wellbeing, YOU SHOULD GO! The facility is beautiful, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and the services/classes are great and affordable. Their fall schedule will add Tai Chi, Yoga and Zumba! I'm game - as long as I get my massage after!
Pros: Beautiful location, conveniently located near Barton Creek Mall
Cons: Absolutely NONE!

I was fortunate enough to walk in on Sascha demonstrating to Shoshana, the owner, a dance routine she was going to teach later that day. I joined in the practice run and had a blast! The space is gorgeous, full of light, and feels so open and freeing. Everyone there is so friendly and encouraging. I cannot wait to go back and take a class!
Pros: Beautiful staff, beautiful space- feels like you're out in nature yet so easy to get to!
Cons: none :)
