I don't recommend eating here at all. The food is boring and service is slow on the patio. Their drinks are weak, walk to Joe DiMaggio's for happy hour for some serious alcohol like greygoose martini for $5 during happy hours, red wines (la cream-pinot noir), white wines(la crema-chardonnay) and many specials from 3-6 p.m Everyday!

A friend took me to lunch yesterday (Feb. 9) at Kona Grill in the Domaine. What a sophisticated, serene atmosphere! The waiter, Jason, was cordial and professional. I decided to order the pulled pork sandwich, something I don't usually order, but it sounded delicious. Beautiful presentation, some of the worst food I have had in such an upscale restaurant. The sandwich had small bits of pork in overly sweet sauce. The main filler was skin and fat. I couldn't eat it. The slaw was so drenched in mayo dressing, it was nauseating. The huge thick onion ring was barely passable. When I ordered the ginger peach tea, a bottle and glass of ice was delivered -- more expensive, no refills. This was the kind of meal I would have sent back -- except I was being treated and didn't want to spoil the ambiance. I may go back and give Kona a second chance, but I definitly won't order the pork sanwich. It should be pulled from the menu.

I went there to have a drink during happy hour. Someone had told me that this was a great spot to go to for sushi, especially during happy hour (I'm from San Diego, and was dying to find a good non-expensive sushi place). It was gross. The happy hour prices (which were great) were limited to a certain area that was open to outside and there were flies everywhere. The sushi was unimpressive, you may as well have taken tuna mixed it with mayo rolled it into a maki and called it sushi. The drinks were cheap which is great, but if that's the only thing it has going for it, it doesn't make up for it's lack of everything everywhere else. The "look" of the place was sort of generic, nothing boasts of uniqueness, it's very BLAH and boring. Maybe it's trying to play it "safe" so it can be everything to everybody, or ... I dunno, if you don't go here, you won't feel bad. You're not missing out on a good time or anything else. The only thing this place has going for it is that their happy hour prices are really really good, but what you have to endure for it is, just too much.
Pros: Low Happy Hour Prices,
Cons: Boring Environment, Very BLAH, Bad Sushi

Ok we went to this hard to find restaurant in the domain (by Macy's) on the weekend and it was great. Great upbeat enviorment. Nice set up. I love going out to dinner and having choices. This place has a lot: Sushi...not for me, Ribs, chicken, pasta , fish, pizzas and meatloaf?....When we were joking about the large selection our server Danielle even told us she could check and see if they could make us a Huge hamburger they normally serve for lunch.....Some of my friends love sushi, and I don't. This is a great place for all of us to go out together. I had the baby back ribs...Loved them. My wife had the Kona Grill Chicken...Really tasty for chicken! Our friends had the sushi thay said it was good...The kept saying that it was not as good as Kenichi or others (They are foodies)....I asked them to think about this....Here is this huge restaurant with all these choices....What would the chicken or ribs taste like at their sushi bars.....They agreed. Nice wine list although for Austin it is a little lacking but lots of choices by the glass. Very busy bar and patio..the server told us it was their reverse happy hour ....We are going to have to check it out...Service was good, dinner was great, wine list OK. Dessert was terrific we had a Macadamia Nut Pie. It was relly good..I never heard of it before. Not a fancy place, just a good place to have a great meal with friends...Something for everyone...The only dissapointing event was the parking it was raining and we all got a little wet....We will be back.....Went back tonight for happy hour.. busy place...need to get early...filled up fast at 9pm...great happy hour prices.....The eggrolls were fantastic...the sauce was killer....wife had chicken satay...a little boring for me but healthy....Sake Bombers......huge beer (like a quart) and sake for 6 bucks!!!
Pros: The selection of food, and sushi, great for dinner with friends Happy Hour
Cons: Parking and location

I chose this place based on some of the reviews, and I have to say I was disappointed. The food was expensive, and very lackluster for what I was getting. We tried to order various things off the menu, like the rolls, salads, steak, and seafood. The steak was overcooked, the seabass was oversalted, and overgrilled, the salmon was a bit charred. Overall, not a very good food experience. I hope the other restaurants in the Domain aren't like this! Maybe you are better off staying away from the chain restaurants, and sticking with something more local.
Pros: Lively ambience
Cons: Expensive for what you get

We took our team out for lunch and had a pretty big table. Our waitress was PHENOMENAL! She ensured our drinks were full and we had everything we needed. The food was fantastic and everyone left with a pleased pallet. I will be going there again!!! The calamari ROCKED!!!!

An otherwise-pleasant family outing was all but ruined by the less-than-less-than-mediocre sushi offered at the Domain's Kona Grill. Although the atmosphere and rather extensive menu seemed promising (strict vegetarians have very few options including and limited to pizza, which, in view of the sushi, should actually be considered very lucky), the food was a stomach turning embarrassment. As voracious sushi-eaters, my party and I were stunned that any accredited (and, from the other reviews, acclaimed) restaurant could produce sushi that we couldn't choke down. To say that the sushi was boring or underwhelming would be euphemistic. My brother-in-law had to expend effort just to keep it down. No exaggeration. The inedible sushi aside, though, the service was attentive, and the repast was certainly unforgettable.
Pros: The bathroom was clean and readily available.
Cons: The sushi made me want to die. No, really.

If the food at happy hour reflects the restaurtant, then I would have to say it is not for "foodies." A lot of fillers and grains make up the happy hour menu. Maybe try the sushi?

I was wary to try Kona Grill because of a review I read recently. After our experience, my husband and I would have to strongly disagree with the critic who wrote that article! We ate there on Sunday afternoon, around 4pm. The hostess was polite and sat us in front of the kitchen windows. We were promptly greeted by a female server who was bubbly and recommended a few things from each column of the menu. I ordered the sushi sampler and my husband ordered the ahi after we enjoyed calamari and some cocktails from the bar. Everything was delicious and served with excellent timing. We've had great food before but were stunned at the reasonable prices at Kona...$12 for a perfectly cooked ahi filet! Amazing! What stood out the most was the service we recieved. She refilled our drinks before we had to ask, she recommended entrees and an appetizer that were great and made us feel welcome and appreciated by engaging in conversation. After my husband expressed concern about the amount of liquor in his dessert drink, she promptly fixed the problem with an apology and a smile. If this is the kind of service that Kona Grill, I would have to say that the critic was extremely mistaken. I will return to Kona Grill kowing that I'll be taken care of!!!!
Pros: Service, Food, Price
Cons: Parking
