of course everyone is giddy about a giant shiny airstream with a big cupcake on top. "I think Im going to try something from there" I say to myself as I pull into a parking spot. But to my hearts dismay it was the WORST cupcake Ive ever eaten and let me tell you, Ive eaten a lot of bad cupcakes in my life. The one from behind the dumpster at H.E.B. was better than this. The cupcake was stale, flavorless, dry, and worst of all a giant sugar bomb. I love sugar, but this was like they were trying to cover up the bad cupcake with a tooth decaying mouth full of sugar.
Pros: cute trailer and cup cake
Cons: horrible taste and overpriced

The other reviewers must be crazy! These are great cupcakes! The cake tastes and has the texture real homemade cake has. Real homemade cake IS thicker than what you'd buy other places. And the icing is wonderful; you can taste the real butter and cream--definitely NO CRISCO here! Don't let the naysayers keep you from trying this place. Trust me: if you like real, homemade, just-like-Grandma-made cake, go to Hey Cupcake. These cupcakes are a bargain at $2 each.

This is what the hype has been about? The best thing about this place is the location and the cute airstream. Hubby and I finally stopped by last night, got in a long line, drool starting to gather in preparation. The we sat down on the curb and each took a big bite. The disappointment was palpable. I said, "That's it?" He said, "These taste like the cupcakes they served in my elementary school cafeteria...and that's never good." I'm no baker, but I've both made and had from scratch cupcakes leaps and bounds better than this, both traditional to jazzy. This was just so, well, nothing. Cake was nearly dry, practically flavorless -- frosting was so generic. And not "like mom made mmmm mmmm" generic...just, I dunno, a waste of calories (and money, at $2.50/ea).

I didn't particularly care for the cupcakes. The cupcake was more like a muffin (which is what another reviewer said) and I prefer the lighter, more cake- like cupcakes. The frosting wasn't that great either. It was very dense. My kids didn't even like it and that says alot. It is a good concept though. Maybe just not my type of cupcake.
Pros: Fun atmosphere, nice concept
Cons: not the best cupcake, too muffin like and heavy

How can you make a bad cupcake? Well, these people mangage to! I fell for the hype and was sorely disappointed. The outer part of the cupcake had a crust more like a muffin than a cupcake. I tired chocolate with white icing and red velvet. Neither one was good so I don't get the popularity of this place. I wanted to be a believer!
Pros: Everyone in line is all tingly with anticipation
Cons: Crusty cupcakes

While browsing the shops on South Congress, my family wandered across the street to get some cupcakes in honor of my brother-in-law's birthday. We each got a different kind and all raved about our cupcakes. It was a very hot day so unfortunately the free shot of whipped cream you could have squirted into the cupcake wasn't an option cause the whipped cream was not cold enough and the bottled waters we got were only slightly chilled, but that is understandable considering the tiny trailer. The cupcakes are the perfect size. I'm not big on frosting but I actually enjoyed theirs and didn't scrape any off like I usually do with cupcakes. Delicious.

I'm assuming the first 3 posts were from owners/employees trying to generate hype (that's how they read anyway). I'm all down with the idea of gourmet cupcakes and don't mind paying $3 for a cupcake if it's great, but it was the most pathetic attempt at a cupcake. I had the Red Velvet and it was SO DRY. A Betty Crocker box-mix cupcake is a million times more delicious. Also annoying was I bought one for my husband and had to BUY a little box to put it in, I think it was 50cents? He thought his white cupcake with chocolate frosting was dry and relatively tasteless as well. On the upside -- cute Airstream and good location. Maybe they should just sell lemonade. Or cans of soda.
Pros: Cute Airstream, Retro design, Central location
Cons: DRY CUPCAKE, OVERPRICED, NO TAKEOUT BOXES (unless you BUY one!)

I would go there to hang out on the wonderful soco strip, but not really to eat because the cupcakes are too sugary sweet- bad cheap icing. We all bought one each, but we couldn't even finish half of it. Super hippie-420 friendly staff and the guitarist jamming next to the mobile was cool too.
Pros: friendly folks
Cons: long line, bad cupcakes

I love cupcakes and with all the hype about Hey Cupcakes I took a trip on last Wednesday to buy several in different flavors. My mouth was watering for the Butter cream Vanilla cupcake, so I took the first bite in hopes to taste the butter in the butter cream frosting. What a disappointment. The cupcake taste like a wedding cake icing that is made with Crisco and the cake wasn’t that great either. In regards to the other flavors like the butter cream chocolate it was not sweet enough. If you like the traditional wedding cake icing that is not on the wedding cake this is the place for you.
Pros: The service is great
Cons: Need to taste the butter in the butter cream

Hey Cupcake is amazing!!! It gives Austin something different from Tiff's Treats and Amy's, which are great places, but sometimes a cupcake is what we all need!!! If you haven't had one, check it out soon and SUPPORT A LOCAL BUSINESS and UT grad!! Once you have one, you'll keep going back for more!! They're perfect for parties, BBQs, dates, get togethers, baby showers, bridal showers, birthdays, anniversaries...you name it!! There's always a reason to have a delicious cupcake!!!
Pros: Delicious cupcakes, great prices, amazing service!!
Cons: There are not more stands in Austin, Texas, US, and the world!
