The atmosphere and decor at NoRTH is great, very modern, yet not over the top. The wait on a Friday night was 20 minutes, not too bad at all considering they don't take reservations. Our waiter was excellent. The food was very good, but not spectacular. We started with the zucca chips, which I highly recommend. The tomato soup was also one of the best we've ever had. My girlfriend had a fig and goat cheese pizza, which was very tasty, but seemed to missing something. I had a shrimp pasta with a garlic sauce. The sauce was excellent, however the shrimp were very small, seemed to be previously frozen, and a little undercooked.

Pros: Good food and atmosphere

Cons: Price, food not spectacular

My friend raved about North. It was good. Diverse, interesting wine list. Comfortable and trendy ambiance. I asked if the Risotto was oily and our waiter assured me it was not- it was. Our waitor, spilled olive oil on me, asked me to hand him the wine list in mid-bite. He wanted us to buy the more expensive bottle of wine, yet he would not explain why it was better, just that is was $11 more. This particular waiter also told my friend (it was her birthday) that the glass of wine she had chosen he did not like as it tasted like twigs! I am from NYC, but geeze have some class kid! Note to your manager- if someone is enjoying their wine- leave them alone do not offer opinion. If I eat here again, I will ask for a different waiter.

Pros: Fun atmosphere, good food

Cons: Worlds worst waiter

I had lunch outside at NoRTH over the weekend and the food and service were both great. I'm always looking for places that are innovative with their menu (tired of eating the same butternut squash ravioli everywhere!) and NoRTH has done just that. It's not even all that expensive- my husband and I had 2 appetizers and pizza and a side and 2 beers for about $35. The pizza (mushroom, arugala and romano cheese) was super-thin crust and fantastically light and flavorful. We'll definitely go back.

Pros: great food, attentive service

Cons: building/patio are on the smaller side

My wife and I went to NoRTH after some rushed XMas shopping, the kind where your feet hurt. NoRTH is a nice little restaurant with and excellent and for Austin untypical broad assortment of Italian and French wines for a fairly good price. Normally I don't like chain restaurants, but NoRTH has a lot to offer. The food was wonderful, my wife had the fish of the day a Amberjack topped with tuna and some nice not to heavy creamy spinach. I had the Osso Bucco with with polenta. I can only say Excellent. The waiters are very attentive (almost a little to attentive) and surprisingly know a lot about some of the not so common wine choices. So a great place to stop by after shopping for a nice dinner. The ambiance is a little new age, but surprisingly comfortable. All in all a very good experience and fairly inexpensive for all we got including a not to pricy bottle of wine.

Pros: Close to shops, sanctuary after a hard shopping day, great wine selection, service

Cons: Parking, Noise level in the restaurant

Located in The Domain, I've visited NoRTH two times in the last month and both times have really enjoyed the experience - dining inside once, and outside the other. An ample selection of menu selections - the ones we've tried, including different pastas and oven-fired pizzas have all been excellent. Service is very punctual and professional, though not necessarily Austin "friendly." I plan to make NoRTH a regular stop - highly recommended!

Pros: Tasty food

Cons: Parking

Editor's Review

Domain-goers and northwest Austin diners consume Italian dishes as modern as the decor at this Arizona import.  See the full editorial review.
